We are at the time of the year where I will be previewing multiple teams around the state of Texas. Today I am previewing the loaded DFW squad the Allen Eagles.
Team Skinny:
The Allen Eagles are a 6A squad out of the DFW who have multiple D1 prospects on their roster. They’re coached by Head Coach Joe McCullough who is in his second year at the position. The Eagles will be in a tough district that features Prosper, Plano West, Jesuit and Mckinney who all have a chance to be really good this year. Allen because of all of their talent and depth are my favorites to win the 6A Region II District and make a state run, but their task will not be an easy one.
Players To Watch:
Mason Gibson | PG/SG | 2021
Gibson is a combo guard that is a good penetrator and excellent at finishing through contact around the cup. He’s explosive and will throw down two-hand dunks in transition. Gibson is also strong on the defensive end and likes to disrupt opposing teams flow on offense with his quickness and active hands.
Thailand Elder | SG | 2020
Elder is an off-ball guard that can fill it up quickly on all levels. He’s a bit undersized but makes up for it by using God given athleticism. He’s a tough competitor that plays the game with a chip on his shoulder.
Ian Motta | SF/PF | 2021
Motta has good fundamentals and knows how to play the game. He’s got good size and can shoot it from the perimeter or finish near the basket.
Bryce Kennedy | SF/PF | Allen | 2020
Kennedy has a strong frame and good athletic ability. He’s a capable shooter that can hit jumpers when left open. The Allen Forward is also a strong rebounder that doesn’t mind battling on the inside.
Manny Obaseki | PG/SG | Allen | 2021
Obaseki is a freak athlete that plays the game under control and takes his time when at the lead guard spot. The 2021 four-star guard has displayed this past summer that he can run a team at a high level and after the departure of three-star point guard Isaiah Stevens who left for college, Obaseki seems like he’s more than ready to take over the duties at the point guard spot.
