Expectations will be high for TJ Horton at TC Williams this season. The Titans, who will feature several new players, will rely heavily on Horton to lead the team both on and off the court. Despite being new to the school, he understands the importance of this, and seems ready to embrace his new role.
“I just want to lead by example and make sure everyone is doing their part,” Horton said during a recent interview with Prep Hoops. “I’m going to work every day. I want everyone to work every day so we can reach our goal. Which at the end of the day is a state championship.”
Following his standout sophomore campaign at Mount Vernon, Horton transferred to Paul VI where he gained some valuable experience competing against some of the best talent both locally and nationally. He will surely be able to apply some of the lessons he learned there during this new chapter.
Catawba, VMI, Richard Bland, and Mount St. Mary’s are some of the schools Horton said are currently involved in his recruitment. He’s already visited the Mount twice and has built a good relationship with their coaching staff.
“It’s a good campus,” he said when asked about the visit. “I like the people around there. They want you to get better every day.”
Horton says his academic goal for the year is to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout the entire school year. On the court, he hopes to win as many games as possible, with the initial goal being to win the conference and the ultimate goal a state title.
