The state’s leading returning scorer, Reid showed just how explosive he can be by dropping 76 in a game last year against East Buchanan, a total that is tied for the second most in a single game in Iowa high school history.
First Team
2020 Nick Reid, Central City (32.5 points, 13.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, 1.1 blocks, 236 FTM)
Reid’s 236 made free throws were more than 267 high school TEAMS made last season, and he attempted more (307) than 161 TEAMS around the state did. The Emporia State commit is a nightly threat to score at least 40.
2021 Parker Rochford, Edgewood-Colesburg (20.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.6 steals)
If it weren’t for Reid, Rochford’s 20.5 points a game would far and away be the most among division returnees. If he can return to the way he shot it was a freshman (48.9 3P%), he could have a huge junior season.
2021 Hunter Caves, Alburnett (13.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals)
Caves burst onto our radar at the state tournament last year, when he helped lead the Pirates to a runner-up finish in 1A. His 104 assists rank in a tie for second among division returnees, along with Rochford.
2021 Alex Koppes, Springville (13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.9 steals, 52.4 FG%)
Koppes is tiny (5-9), but productive. He led the Orioles in scoring and blocks, and finished second in assists and steals last season.
2020 Austin Miller, North Linn (10.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.9 steals, 73.0 FG%)
Miller was the beneficiary of a lot of Jake Hilmer’s dimes for easy layups, which largely contributed to that eye-popping 73.0 FG%. But he’s a good player without Hilmer as well, which he will show this year as he and Austin Hilmer look to help North Linn defend their conference and state crowns.
