A 6-9 junior big man drawing plenty of Division I interest, Riggs looks primed to have a huge year for the Maroons, who open the year #3 in our 4A rankings. Look for this long, athletic forward to turn into one of the state’s dominant two-way players this year.
First Team
2021 Ryan Riggs, Dowling Catholic (12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 58.5 FG%)
Riggs is the leading returnee in blocks in the division, and should be a threat to average nearly a double-double for the Maroons this year. A 6-9 junior forward with lots of Division I interest, he’s a versatile threat on both ends of the floor with plenty of length and athleticism.
2020 Braxton Bayless, Ankeny (15.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.3 steals, 53.0 FG%)
The leading returning scorer in the division, the 6-1 guard not only led the Hawks in scoring last year, but he also led them in rebounding, assists, steals and blocks. The stat sheet stuffer also did so with great efficiency, posting shooting splits of 53-47-74.
2020 Cody McCullough, Ankeny Centennial (11.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, 61.5 FG%)
McCullough, a 6-7 forward, led the Jaguars in scoring, rebounding and blocks last year, and did so with remarkable efficiency, shooting 61.5% from the floor, which ranks third in 4A among returnees with at least 100 field goal attempts last year.
2021 Reid Grant, Johnston (9.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists)
The heartbeat of a Dragons team that we have ranked #2 in 4A to open the year, Grant is a tough, physical guard who loves to get to the rim and play downhill. He led the Dragons in assists last season.
2020 Matt Stilwill, Dowling Catholic (13.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals)
The leading scorer last year for the Maroons, Stillwill is a 6-2 senior guard who contributes across the board for Dowling. He’s big and physical, and he uses that strength to help be an efficient scorer. His 115 free throw attempts last year are tops among returnees in 4A.
