This 2021 team to start with wasn’t an easy pick, but all worthy, and would blend well. These athletes are bound for a bit winter. Let’s get started with this preseason preview!
These all-star teams are just a fun way to bring together some talent and think “what if”. It isn’t necessarily about the top ranked players but more so the fit that they have together. Which, is the biggest difference between first and second team, putting the best fit together.
First Team:
G Jalen Sullinger (5’9” / Thomas Worthington): Jalen Sullinger is set to have another big season with the Cardinals. One of the best scoring guards despite his size, Sullinger has it all. A lights out shooter, ball handling and ability to create for others. Thomas Worthington will go as far as their 2021 class can take them, and the junior is a giant part. Sullinger would do just about all of the ball handling in this lineup.
G Trey Woodyard (6’5” / London): The London junior continues to add Mid Major offers with the latest being Miami (Oh). Woodyard is one of the best scorers in the junior class, in the whole STATE! Woodyard can stop on a dime and put it up from anywhere, and has size to finish it inside. The London athlete has gotten stronger which benefits him on multiple levels. Woodyard would get a lot of outside looks will Sullinger as well in this running five.
WF TJ Pugh (6’5” / Shelby): This is an interesting one. Shelby isn’t technically in Central Ohio, but they play in the MOAC, which is a North Central Ohio league. Pugh broke onto the scene last year with next level footwork inside and the ability to create for others. Since then the junior has became a better athlete, added some bounce and is a better ball handler. Pugh acts as if a point forward at times, handling the ball. Also, his jumpshot is trending upward as well, when it’s consistent he is hard to stop. In this lineup he would take some ball handling duties as well as a versatile scorer. High Division ll programs up to Division l mid majors should be taking a look at this one.
F Jack Sawyer (6’5” / Pickerington North): Jack Sawyer is a five star Ohio State football commit, but he’s a next level hooper too. If he was taking basketball to the next level, he would be a Division l talent in that as well. A physical beast in the paint that doesn’t get outworked by many. Sawyer would get a ton of touches in this lineup, and be able to use his turnaround which is always money.
F Tyrese Hughey (6’7” / Thomas Worthington): The newest Cardinal after transferring over, is set for a big junior year. Hughey is developing his offensive game and picked up a number of mid major offers the past few months. A big time athlete that moves well, Hughey would be icing on the cake for this lineup. Also, a shot blocker that runs the floor well, cleans up misses and so much more.
Sixth Man:
G Chance Groce (6’5” / Linden-McKinley): Groce was a player that we couldn’t leave off of this. Chance is a matchup for any player trying to guard him on the wing. Also, a terror in transition, but also can score in the midrange. Groce operates best with the ball in his hands where he can stop and score from just about anywhere, or finish at the rack. The 2021 prospect brings decent athleticism to the game, a big reason why he’s a solid rebounder too. Groce can be tough to score on any given game.
