That kicked off on Sunday with the UIC Elite Camp! We will have tons of interviews and evaluations from the camp. Let’s start off with the best of the best in UIC Elite Camp: Top Performers!
SG Jaden Schutt (Yorkville Christian – 2022)
The top 5 2022 wing more than lived up to the billing with his play at the UIC Elite Camp earning an offer shortly after the camp. The 6’4” two guard has size for position along with plus athleticism. Crisp movements both with and without the ball. He was lethal in the shooting drills connecting on one after another. That continued draining deep threes in the games. Like his pull up game as he can stop and pop on a dime. Gets elevation off the floor. Got out in transition and showed a burst on his first step. Projects as one of the best in the Illinois 2022 class early on.
PF Caden Boser (Eau Claire Memorial, WI – 2020)
This Wisconsin native played well. He was actually in the same skill group as Schutt and they shot back to back often times both drilling shots with ease. This 6’8” power forward displayed a clean shooting stroke being able to knock them down with ease both off the catch and in the pick/pop game. Well-built kid that was a little slow footed laterally defensively, but showed offensively he could put it on the deck at times and was efficient with a soft touch on the block.
PF Kennedy Brown (Core 4 Prep, GA – 2021)
Brown was the best player in the gym on Sunday. The 6’8” post recently reclassified to the 2021 class and announced he will be leaving Bogan to attend prep school in Georgia. He made quite a goodbye statement on the city with his performance on Sunday. Brown is a mobile four man that is a rim runner in transition, can rebound in his area, and has potential defensively. The area that made the biggest impression was his shooting. He didn’t shoot it great in the drills, but once the games started Brown could not miss! Consistently hit pick and pop jumpers, spot up threes, and mid-range shots. Used his mobility around the hoop to finish. Scored an UIC offer after the camp.
G Connor Dillon (Peoria Notre Dame – 2020)
Dillon is a lefty combo guard that we have been fans of for a while. The 6’2” Peoria Notre Dame rising senior has athletic pop playing both on and off the ball. Explodes to the hoop for slams and acrobatic layups. Plus shooter with a sweet lefty stroke. Quick and concise shot with consistent accuracy both pulling up off the bounce and drilling shots off the catch.
PF Aaron Tims (Hinsdale South – 2020)
Tims is a bouncy four man that uses his quickness around the hoop to his full advantage. The mobile four man is a beast on the offensive glass flying in for offensive rebound put backs. Other ways he scores are rim running in transition along with quick takes from the mid-range.
SG Ben Schwieger (Waubonsie Valley – 2021)
Schwieger was absolutely the biggest stock riser of the day. The Waubonsie Valley wing is a player we heard some buzz about, but this was our first evaluation. He doesn’t play AAU because he is a big time volleyball player as well. Schwieger also looked the part of a D1 hoops recruit at 6’5” with a long and wiry frame. Plus shooter that drilled shots in both in the drills and games. Clean looking shot. More than just a shooter he has some athleticism with a quick first step and acrobatic finishes at the rim. Look for him to make a big debut in the next 2021 rankings.
PG Brylan Phillips (Decatur Eisenhower – 2022)
Phillips is a high IQ point guard at 5’11”. The Decatur Eisenhower point guard sees the floor making sound decisions with the ball in his hands in the half court. Works well around ball screens. Competes on the defensive end. Phillips had multiple silky smooth drives to the cup where he finished with either hand.
SG Kenneth Salle (Crane – 2020)
Salle had a nice day scoring the basketball. The 6’4” strong two guard can score on the perimeter with a free and easy mid-range jumper along with being able to stretch it out to three on occasion. Salle also played with strength going downhill.
PG Ethyn Brown (Belleville East – 2021)
Brown projects as one of the better prospects from the metro east in the 2021 class. The Belleville East point guard is coming off a strong summer with the Southwest Jets and continued that momentum with his play at UIC Camp. Brown is an excellent passer making decisions on the fly that lead to points. As a scorer he wins off the bounce especially on quick baseline drives and is a capable shooter.
PF Anthony Neal (South Bend Clay, IN – 2020)
Neal totally looks the part at 6’7” with a physical frame. Broad shoulders and good strength. Combines that with explosive athleticism around the rim. Skied high for several monster dunks. Quick to the glass and blocked a couple shots. The overall skill set needs to round out, but there are a lot of intriguing tools to work with for Neal!
