Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the state’s top performers throughout the spring and summer.
27-Kamari Armstrong, 6’2, 2020, Olathe East, KC Silver
A defensive player who is tough to get around and shoots well in the mid-range. He is strong for his size and can get inside and score. He plays smart with the ball. He works when he gets his touches and keeps playing when things aren’t swinging his way. He looks inside to pass and has a team first attitude.
9 — Rishaud Dockery, 6’2, G, 2020, Bonner Springs, Team KC
Dockery has emerged as one of the Prep Hoop Staff’s favorite all-around players, capable of doing a little bit of everything well. He is a tough, no-nonsense competitor who often matched up against opposing team’s best perimeter players and gave them fits with his tenacity, quickness and basketball IQ. At the offensive end of the court, Dockery emerged as a primary ball handler who can score in a variety of ways.
2-Ethan Lincoln, 6’2, 2020, Lawrence Free State, Grandstand Elite
Lincoln impressed last season at Free State with his tenacious defense at guard and that carried over to the summer as he ran with Grandstand Elite. He has terrific size and a strong frame and uses it well at both ends of the floor. He can rebound, handle the ball a little and plays well off the ball, cutting and finding open spaces on the court.
4 — Kenyon Myers, 6’5, F, 2020, Leavenworth, Team KC
Myers was among the state’s most impressive two-way players this offseason as he was a defensive presence in the lane for Team KC and showed an emerging offensive game as well. He is a jumping jack who is quick off the ground and has terrific timing and reflexes as a shot blocker. He can move his feet on the perimeter and defend multiple positions or switches with ease. Offensively, he is a threat to throw down highlight reel dunks, but also has a nice mid-range game and an emerging outside shot that stretches to the 3-point line.
King Sutton, 6’5, G/F, 2020, Topeka, Kansas Hoggs 17U
Sutton is among the state’s most athletic players capable of blocking shots, throwing down slams and running the court with ease. He has good lateral quickness and can defend a guard or wing player, but has shown the ability to defend in the post as well. He likes to get out in the passing lanes and swipe and errant pass and take it the other way for big slams, but plays a disciplined style of defense as well.
