One thing that this group seemed to grasp well was the mindset of sharing the ball and applying defensive pressure to their teammates.
Fayetteville Christian C/O 2021 5’9 Guard Tomas Stevens: We have seen him putting in work in the gym all summer long and it’s paying off without a doubt. He was efficient shooting the ball throughout the day, and displayed some solid ball handling skills which allowed him to break down his defender without much issue.
Westover HS C/O 2020 5’9 Guard Terrez Fryer: When you watch him play, you’re reminded of former Westover HS Guard Christian Lathan as they both bring that toughness to the court, especially on the defensive end. He has a quick first step and was constantly blowing by defenders throughout the day, the next step for him will be making the best decisions once he gets in the paint.
Westover HS C/O 2020 5’9 Guard Ma’Nas Drummond: We have been impressed with how much he has improved over the past few years, he has become even more confident and made plays throughout the day. He can shoot the ball at a solid rate but didn’t settle, which is something that you have to love from a player at the guard position.
Lee County HS C/O 2023 5’8 Guard Deshaun Brown: Coming in to camp as not only one of the smaller players but also the youngest, it was interesting to see how he would handle things and make adjustments. After a somewhat slower start he seemed to get more comfortable, knocking down some shots and scoring the ball inside in the paint. He will be one to keep an eye on over the next few years as he is a player that we know puts in a nice amount of work on his game.
Fairmont HS C/O 2021 Guard Chandler McNeal: He didn’t have necessarily a dominant performance but he showed some flashes of what he can possibly be. The most impressive attribute that we saw from him was his passing ability, he did a nice job of converting tough passes to teammates for easy buckets.
