Prospect Update: Jordan Kumm (2020)
One of the more electric players you’ll find in Iowa is Ankeny’s rising senior guard Jordan Kumm.
At 5-foot-10, he’s not electric in the above the rim sense, but he’s worked to develop an ability to blow-by defenders and his relentless motor renders him one of the state’s most entertaining players to watch.
For Kumm, though, it’s his ability to lead that he’s been working to hone most over the last several months.
“I’d just say I’ve been working on being more aggressive and being more of a team leader. Being an incoming senior I’ll need to take over and take the young guys under your wing; show them about attacking the hoop and making the extra pass and things like that,” he said.
According to Kumm, his athletic ability, quickness and toughness has all developed as a result of his increased involvement with the Hawks football team.
“I’ve been getting more involved with football and it’s toughened me up and helped with my ability to finish around the rim,” said Kumm. “I had mostly been a 3-point shooter, but I attack the hole a lot better and finish better around the rim.”
As a junior, Kumm was a key piece for a 13-8 Ankeny squad. He averaged 7.4 points, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
This season, he’ll be called upon to not only lead, but see those numbers increase across the board.
“This year, we just need to stay together as a team. As the season goes on, it’s a grind, and this season we just need to push through that and want it more than we did last year,” said Kumm.
Ahead of his senior season, Kumm will finish out his 17u grassroots season with Beyond Ball 24K.
“The spring started off really good for us, and playing with them helped me attack the hole a lot better; playing with those guys at practice helped me to get better at that,” said Kumm.
Recruitment: “This June I’ve been going to a lot of football camps and I’ve had a lot of schools reach out to me for football. And after the live period I had Central Missouri reach out to me for basketball, the University of Indianapolis, too,” said Kumm.
“I think just whatever school fits me the best, because I like both sports, so it’s just a matter of whatever school has the best education for me and what school feels like home to me.”
