Prospect Spotlight: Zack Blue (2020)
Zack Blue is a name that might not be familiar to those who follow high school basketball in Northern Virginia, but that could change soon. Blue was a reserve for the best team in school history at Patriot High School last year, but hopes to make a big impact during his upcoming senior year. If what we saw from him last weekend at the Battle of NoVA is any indication, he should become a household name among the local hoops community in a matter of months.
Listed at 6’0 150 pounds, Blue is still just 16 years old and still getting stronger as he continues to mature physically. Aside from his knock-down shooting ability and tight handle, one thing that really stood out about his overall game is how well he rebounds from the guard position.
“I just want to win. That helps winning, so you’ve got to do it,” Blue replied when asked about his rebounding prowess and consistently high activity level defensively. “Just boxing out, help out the big men.”
One thing Blue admittedly needs to work on is becoming a more consistent finisher around the rim. His ability to absorb contact and therefore finish in traffic will likely improve as he continues to add weight.
“I like watching Kyrie, but I wouldn’t say I model my game after him,” said Blue when asked if there are any players he watches or models his game after. “I like the way he dribbles to get into his shots. It’s impressive.”
Off the court, Blue is an A-B Honor Roll student with a 3.7 GPA. He says he might want to study Business in college. Factors he says are important when considering colleges include the campus aesthetics, course selection, and quality of education.
What can Blue add to a program at the next level?
“I think I can shoot the ball and play point guard if I need to. Help everyone out, play defense.”
