Prospect Spotlight: Matthew Voll (2021)
Ankeny Christian Academy is always one of the better teams in Class 1A, and next season should be no different. Especially after the addition of 6-foot-4 wing Matthew Voll.
Formerly an Ankeny Centennial product, Voll transferred to ACA where he’ll play his junior and senior seasons. With Voll, the Eagles have added a big and versatile playmaker who can score at all three levels.
“I would say my strength is I can get downhill and finish at the rim, and make plays for my teammates and get them shots, I like to get my teammates involved,” said Voll.
Voll is most comfortable playing from the outside in, as a wing rather than as a post. He thought he’d be able to display his natural ability to play the wing better with the Eagles.
“I feel like the system (at Centennial) didn’t really fit me as well, and I feel like transferring to ACA would allow me to have more freedom and my skill-set would fit in better with how they play.”
Voll has already started getting acclimated to his new teammates at ACA during the Kingdom Hoops summer league.
“We’ve been playing some good 3A teams, and our biggest goal is to play against better competition to prepare us to get through Substate and to state next season,” he said.
Voll has also been hooping with Beyond Ball 16u this offseason. He says he’s looking forward to showcasing his playmaking ability this summer.
“My biggest goal this summer is to show that I can score from all three levels, be a playmaker and to defend,” said Voll.
Recruitment: “I’ve gotten some letters from a couple D2 schools, Saginaw Valley State has sent me an elite camp invite and then Ferris State has sent me an invite.”
