Des Moines North will have some big shoes to fill next season, one guy that will help fill the void is athletic forward Gore Puot.
One of the more athletic guys in Iowa, Puot has a reputation for being one of the biggest dunking threats around. He says his extremely high vertical helps him in several other ways, too.
“I feel like I’m really good at shooting mid-range jumpers and attacking the basket. My athleticism helps me to rebound and it kind of helps my 3-game, too, because the opponent might be scared I’m going to drive so I can just pull up and hit a 3,” said Puot.
“I’m continuing to work on my athleticism and going left, I can go right, but when I go left it just feels weird. So, I’m just working on that, to try and make it more natural.”
With the Polar Bears last season, the then-junior started and averaged 5.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and a team-best 1.6 blocks per game.
“I thought I played better than expected, I wasn’t expected to start,” Puot said. “Next year my role is going to be way bigger, I’m going to need to get more buckets, way more buckets.”
In the meantime, Gore is hooping with Kingdom Hoops Navy 17u this spring and summer.
“My spring has been good, and we capped off the spring good by winning a championship a couple weeks ago,” Puot said.
“This summer, I’m looking forward to building the team chemistry and getting everyone involved so we can all play as a unit.”
Recruitment: “None that I know of,” Puot said. “But this summer I’m hoping to gain more looks and just get my name out there.”
