Continue ReadingPoint guard Bobby Pettiford Jr. is due for a breakout summer with Team CP3 on the EYBL Circuit. This past season, Pettiford produced 19.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.3 steals per contest for his South Granville squad last season as they finished 13-3 in the conference and made it to the second round of the 2A State Championship. With a whole lot more in the tank and garnering a lot more attention, Pettiford has an opportunity to have quite the breakout summer.
He can distribute, he can shoot it, he can defend at a high level, he can fill up the stat sheet. Pettiford is one of the best all-around guards in the 2021 class and continues to improve his game. He recently returned from the Nike Top 100 Camp in St. Louis, Missouri and I had a chance to catch up with him to get his thoughts on his game and his recent development.
Q: Breakdown Bobby Pettiford Jr.’s game. What are some strengths? Weaknesses?
Bobby Pettiford Jr.: I’m an athletic guard that can get to the rim at any time. I can get my teammates involved, I can shoot it, just an all-around good player. My weakness is probably not shooting the ball enough, I hear a lot from others about being more aggressive.
Q: You recently got back from the Nike Top 100 camp, how was that experience for you?
BP: It was good going against most of the top players. We had a good team so it was a good experience. It was a lot of hard work and tiring but an overall great experience.
Q: How’s the recruitment process going? Are there any schools pursuing you heavily?
BP: A few teams recruiting me heavily are Clemson, NC State, App State, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, it’s going good though. Just waiting on that first offer, I consider this my blow up summer.
Q: What’s the biggest thing you’re working on with your game?
BP: The biggest thing is probably adjusting to the new 3-point line in the college game. Improving my catch-and-shoot game from there and showing off my range. Then, there’s also being more aggressive with the ball in my hands.
Q: What would be your ideal college to attend?
BP: A big school in the ACC that’s close to home would be ideal for me. One of the North Carolina schools would be intriguing. A family-based environment with a guard-heavy rotation would be ideal.
Pettiford will be in action this July with Team CP3 in the Peach Jam. It’s only a matter of time before college coaches pull the trigger on his recruitment.
