Continue ReadingThis summer is a transition for the Class of 2021 prospects as they now move from the role of underclassmen which means for many, taking on more responsibility on the court. In the spring and the first few weeks of the evaluation periods in June, we have seen quite a few standout and there are some names that you will need to get to know if you haven’t already.
Pinecrest HS Point Guard Bradlee Haskell: You should know his name already, he put together a pretty impressive season last year and is a double digit assist and points type of player. Good end to end speed and vision fits his team’s offense perfectly as he is an up-tempo type of guard, and from all accounts that we have heard from, he’s a great teammate to play with.
West Columbus Forward Brandis Kelly: Things have been pretty quiet over the last few months with Kelly but he’s a player that we really liked after we got a chance to see him this season. He has the size and toughness of a football player but the skillset and soft touch of a basketball player, which makes for a pretty nice prospect.
Independence Forward Omarion Bodrick: Running the floor, blocking shots and finishing above the rim are all things that he does well, he understands how to use his 6’6 height and long wingspan to be effective. When he is locked in and consistently engaged in what’s going on, he is a player that grabs the attention of college coaches.
Fayetteville Christian PG Kelton Battle: The time that he’s putting in to get better on the court and stronger in the weight room is clearly showing. His ability to read different types of defenses has always been a strength but now he is able to attack more quickly and play through higher amount of contact. One attribute that we like about him is his ability to be coached, you won’t hear much complaining from him, he instead just looks to get the job done.
Winston Salem Prep Forward Anthony Sellars: Stock is on the rise without a doubt, he has plenty of the tools that you would want to see from a wing prospect. Athletic, height at 6’6, ability to knock down the three ball, long arms, the list goes on and on with attributes that we like about Anthony. The key for him is to remain aggressive as much as possible, not settling for the outside shot too often but instead forcing the defenders to work by attacking constantly.
East Carteret Guard Bennie Brooks: Last season he put up some major numbers for the Mariners and would keep that momentum during the AAU season with the Team Wall Grassroots team. Brooks can score the ball at a pretty high level and is a versatile player as we have seen him play the 1-4 positions.
