Continue ReadingNigel Johns is currently the top unsigned prospect in the state for the senior class. The former Washington State signee received a release from his National Letter of Intent back in March and still is currently looking to make his college decision.
At 6-foot-10, Nigel is a physically imposing big man who elevates well off the floor for a guy of his stature. The three-star center has been hearing from Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, North Dakota, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, VCU, and Virginia Tech.
IN NIGEL’S WORDS
Louisiana Tech: “Coach Yaphett and Coach Konkol are great mentors and awesome family men. They want me to be an impact player right away and believe I can help them get to the big dance in March.”
Oklahoma State: “The visit was a good one. The coach likes my aggressiveness, my frame, and my speed. They said that if I were to sign, that in a year I could come in and be an impact player. I really loved how they illustrated how campus life would be and the environment around campus is really nice. Coach Boynton and his coaching staff are more than willing to help their players. He is leading a great program.”
Oregon State: “Coach Tinkle was a professional big man who played overseas. Coach Rupp, I believe was involved with Andrew Bogut’s development. So I like how development is key at Oregon State.”
FINAL THOUGHTS
Johns’ has not set a date and does not have a timeline for when he will announce his decision. His main goal through all of this is to make his grandmother proud and he will do that by taking his time with the process. When asked about what his decision will be based upon, he stated, “Fit and if I really feel I am wanted.”
Whoever receives a commitment from Johns, will be getting an athletic five-man who plays to his strengths by holding it down inside. The true big man is one of the best remaining centers not only in the state but in the country.
