The super-athletic 6-foot-5 junior from Lindbergh High school in Renton can run and jump with the best of them and he’s working on diversifying his game. His hope is that this spring and summer with Washington Supreme on the UAA circuit will give him the opportunity to do that and attract college recruiting attention as well.
“It’s been a different different experience for me,” Kora said. “Coach (Carl) Howell gives us a look at what to expect in college and what the practices will be like. I’ve been working on my ball-handling and guard skills because I’m 6-foot-5, 6-foot-6 but I’m not that big, so I need to work on my guard skills – get a tight handle and a good jump shot.”
This past weekend at the West Coast Spring Showcase, Washington Supreme was head and shoulders above most of the competition in terms of talent so Kora got a chance to get more playing time. He showed that he’s a high-riser with a number of impressive dunks in transition and he was aggressive on the boards and on defense as well. So far his college recruitment has been relatively quiet as Pacific Lutheran has shown some interest and there have been some initial contacts with San Diego State, so Kora is keeping things open while having a goal in mind.
“I’m hoping to play Division I basketball and I’m willing to take steps to get there,” Kora said. “I’ll play at a local school and then transfer, it doesn’t matter – the end goal is to play D-I.”
With that said, Kora is focused on finishing the summer strong with Washington Supreme enjoying every step of the way. “I expect to turn into a two or a three and just have fun with my (basketball) family,” Kora said. “I want to hoop all summer and get my recruiting up.”
Kora currently ranks as the #43 player in the PrepHoops Washington Class of 2020 rankings.
