Prospect Spotlight: Kir Diew (2022)
Hoover is graduating its two best scorers and best on-ball defender from last season’s 14-10 squad, but the cupboard is far from bare.
Freshman Kir Diew is a guy that will provide a lot of firepower for the Huskies over the next three seasons. Diew along with guys like Jonathan Beverly, Manny Austin and Jaden Loveless will make the Huskies tough to beat.
Kir’s height and ability to stretch the floor offensively have been on display this spring on the grassroots circuit. The 6’5 forward appears to be a top prospect in Iowa’s Class of 2022.
“I like to stretch the floor, I don’t like to post up all the time because it helps the defender predict my game. If I have a shorter defender on me, I’m going to obviously shoot over him. I like to pick and pop off screens,” said Diew.
“I want to learn how to dribble, so that I can be a much bigger threat on the floor. So that’s what I’m going to be working on all summer.”
Last season, Diew was able to see some varsity minutes with the Huskies, going for 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in nine games.
“It was amazing, just learning from the seniors and learning new things, improving my game at the highest level, it was a good experience, and I’m excited for next year,” Diew said. “Seniors Adam (Jackson) and Kenny (Quinn) really helped me out, big props to them, they taught me a lot of what to do to succeed and accomplish at the varsity level.”
Ahead of next season, Diew will continue this offseason with Kingdom Hoops Navy 15u, one of Iowa’s best squads.
“We’ve had a good spring overall, we have good chemistry on our team, and that makes it easier to find my teammates for shots and create for them,” said Diew.
“I’m looking to just improve my ball-handling and shoot 3s better this summer, so I can be more of a threat on the perimeter.”
