There are players of every level in this game and after looking at the rosters closely, we feel as if it should be a pretty competitive matchup as well as being fun to watch.
Millbrook Guard Phillip Burwell: We feel like Elizabeth City got a good one in Phillip as he is a player that should be able to come in and play early. His scoring ability as well as his toughness are both reasons why we feel he should excel in the CIAA.
Smithfield Selma Guard Anthony Council: Another player that is a beast under 6 feet, he can flat out put the ball in the bucket against different types of talent. He’s quick , has good ballhandling skills and good lateral quickness that you can see on the defensive end of the floor.
Greene Central Forward Imajae Dodd: UNCW fans will get a chance to see their future Forward on the court as Dodd has already signed to be a Seahawk. Finishing in the paint , blocking shots and rebounding are all things we have seen him do at a high level. Don’t be shocked to see him getting a double/double and possibly even a triple double if things go well.
South Brunswick Forward Jace McKenney: He’s already signed to be a UNCP Brave and we feel that he could do very well on the D2 level. He plays the game with a high motor and doesn’t mind physical contact by any stretch of the imagination, look for him to continue to get better as time goes on.
Panther Creek Forward Justin Mckoy: He will be playing his college career out at UVA and fans should be excited as he is an outstanding person off the court as well as on the court . He can score the ball in multiple ways ,can rebound it well and has a college level physique already. If the game is close in the final moments , don’t be shocked if you see the ball in his hands.
71st Forward Brion McLaurin: A stretch Forward type of player that will be playing out his college career at Chowan , he has college level size and skill. Throughout the season we saw him put up some nice scoring and rebounding numbers.
South Central Guard Shykeim Phillips: First and foremost , he’s a young man that flat out knows how to win games. What really makes him dangerous is that he does a nice job of picking his spots. He can score it at a high level as well as facilitate, signed to UNCW.
Wakefield HS Wing Trae Smith: Had some good showings throughout this season , can shoot the ball well off the catch and has college wing size . Look for him to knock down some catch and shoot treys as he will be playing with some guards that can break down a defense.
Broughton HS PG DJ Thomas: One of the best guards that you will see under 6 feet without a doubt. He’s quick , tough , can score it against just about anybody and defends at a nice rate. Whatever JC programs ends up with him will be very happy, look for him to be a fan favorite player in this game.
Southwest Onslow Guard Dhayrus Thomas: A two sport athlete , he plays the game with the toughness of a football player while showing the skillset of a hooper. He’s fast , athletic and can really put on a show for the fans when he gets into transition.
