Just like I was able to do in the Hoopseen Atlanta Jam, I wrote down names to be mentioned as the top players throughout the tournament. I came up with 12 players from different classes who played like there was no tomorrow.
Some of these prospects I am just now seeing for the first time this AAU season, while there are others I am seeing for the second time in less than three weeks.
Here are the top performers (single game performances only) from the Memphis in May Invitational Tournament:
Jordan Rawls, Team Thad 17U: The Western Kentucky commit dropped 15 points on Mid-South Basketball Association in his team’s 69-66 overtime win to capture the 17U Championship.
Cameron Matthews, Team Thad 17U: The 6-foot-6 forward added 13 points to go alongside Rawls’ 15 points. Matthews scored five straight points in overtime to put Team Thad over the hump.
Quintavious Bailey, Team Thad 17U: The shooting guard made four 3s and finished with 14 points against MBA.
Chandler Jackson, Hoop City 16U: Jackson was 6-3 when he started his freshman season at Christian Brothers High School. Now, he’s 6-4 and is still a difficult matchup. Jackson had 13 points in his team’s 64-61 overtime win over Team H.Y.P.E.
T.J. Madlock, Hoop City 16U: T.J. Madlock’s dad and University of Memphis Men’s assistant coach, Tony Madlock, was in the stands watching with his black Memphis Tigers hat hovering over his eyes. T.J. led his team with 18 points in its win over Team H.Y.P.E.
Mason Miller, Hoop City 16U: Former NBA basketball player Mike Miller was in attendance to watch his son, Mason Miller, drop 11 points, including a 3 from the corner to send the game into overtime. Mason, who recently just picked up an offer from Memphis, had a handful of strong finishes at the rim.
Jacobi Wood, WHBH 17U: Wood led his team with 16 points in the 73-71 overtime loss to MBA.
Ryan Wilcox, WHBH 17U: The 6-5 forward provided 13 points against MBA.
Ray Tyler, WHBH 17U: Tyler finished with 16 points against MBA.
Chris McKnight Hoop City 17U: The 6-5 wing had 16 points in his team’s 92-50 win over Team Carroll Premier – Jones.
Jalen Bo Montgomery, Hoop City 17U: Montgomery also had 16 points in a game that was one-sided for the most part.
Jesse Payne, Bluff City Legends GOLD: Payne played a big part in his team’s 28-5 deficit against KC Run GMC Elite, dropping 15 points as Bluff City rallied to win the game by the final score of 63-53.
