With the way basketball is being played today, if an athlete plays multiple spots on the perimeter, he will give himself a better chance to be successful. Here are the top 5 guards from AAU season thus far.
Colby Jones (Alabama Fusion)- Jones has emerged as the goto guy for the Fusion. At 6’5 he can play multiple perimeter spots, and he has shown off a vastly improved playmaking ability. He is a 3 level scorer and an excellent perimeter rebounder. Through EYBL play Jones has averaged 14-8-4.
Giancarlo Valdez (Pro One Select)- Valdez has been one of the most improved players through the spring schedule. This kid is a dog and has the skill set to play anywhere on the perimeter. Valdez has become more aggressive offensively. He has ideal size (6’3) to play both guard spots.
Tommy Murr (Alabama Fusion)- Say what you want about Murr, but this kid is a special talent. He’s between 6’0-6’1, but his IQ, scoring/shooting ability, playmaking, and craftiness allows Murr to play both on/off the ball. It is worth noting that Murr is shooting over 40% from 3 in EYBL play.
Hayden Lamey (JBA Jayhawks)- Lamey is a 6’3 guard who is one of the best shooters in the state. He has improved his playmaking and overall scoring ability. Lamey rebounds very well from the perimeter and has improved his on ball defense. This kid is a high academic student and should be on the radar of high academic and MM level schools.
Sam Youngblood (Hawks Elite)- Youngblood is quietly becoming a top 20 talent in the 2020 class. This kid has a very smooth offensive game. At 6’2-6’3 he has ideal size for either guard spot. MM level schools have been all over him after his performances in the live periods.
