WASHINGTON, DC -- Prep Hoops was in the gym all weekend at Adidas DC and now its time to take a look back at what we learned. Below is a rundown of five takeaways from an eventful weekend.

2021 GUARDS SHINE

The local class of 2021 has plenty of talent, and this weekend several of the top guards in the class impressed. Elijah Hawkins and Saveon Jackson were a dynamic duo in the back court for New World. Angelo Brizzi played up with the 17's and made his impact felt on both ends of the court.

BIG MAN DOMINANCE PREVALENT

There were so many good post prospects we saw at Adidas. Some of the top rim protectors included Jamel Melvin, Favour Aire, and Jason Edokpayi. Offensively, New World's Dowar Jioklow was a matchup problem with his skill set in the mid and low post. Chris Smith was a physical bruiser who patrolled the paint for DC Thunder. And Team BBC's Jedy Cordilia might be one of the better long term post prospects in the local 2021 class. Cordilia has very soft hands and will only continue to improve as he grows into his body.

DC THUNDER SHARPSHOOTERS IMPRESS

Mazae Blake, Milton Matthews, and Jamal Barnes consistently knocked down shots in each game DC Thunder played. Malcolm Alexander handled it more than ever and showed that he can consistently create his own shot off the bounce. They all did their due diligence on the defensive end as well and maxed out on effort.

N'GUESSAN, FREEMAN SET FOR BREAKOUT

Team BBC has a talented duo in David N'Guessan and JayShaun Freeman. Both of whom look like legit division one prospects. N'Guessan is a hybrid forward who can do a bit of everything on both ends while Freeman is a skilled three level scorer who can fill it up in a hurry.

WARD TOP OF HIS CLASS?

The initial 2022 rankings are on the horizon, and Tyrell Ward is making a strong case for the number 1 spot. At 6-foot-5, he's got the prototypical blend of size, skill, and athleticism that a high major wing prospect possesses. Ward's production has been impressive this spring, certainly enough for a high ranking, but will he be #1?
