Prospect Update: Cooper DeJean (2021)
As freshman, OABCIG guard Cooper DeJean was really good, this past season, as a sophomore, he was exceptional.
DeJean grew taller, now 6-foot-1, and hit the weights, he worked on his skill-development, too. What resulted was one of the best seasons in the state, regardless of graduating class.
“I got in the weight room and got bigger and was working on my jump-shot really helped a lot, and I’ve been able to finish around the rim better,” said DeJean.
Here’s the numbers: he averaged 23.3 points per game, shot 51 percent from the floor, dished out 5.0 assists, swiped 1.7 steals and snared a whopping 11.3 rebounds per game this past winter.
“I didn’t really expect to blow up how much I did, but I just wanted to win so badly that I just did a lot, scored, assisted, rebounded, just hustled and tried to get wins,” said DeJean.
He now heads into an offseason with a head full of steam, and will play with one of the best teams around, Martin Brothers 16U.
“Obviously, we have a lot of talent, so that should help get a lot of exposure for me and my teammates, and get our names out there,” DeJean said. “And hopefully I can get some more colleges coming around.”
So far, NAIA programs Morningside, Briar Cliff and Dordt have reached out to him. He’ll be working to get some higher level interest this summer.
“Hopefully I can start catching the eye of some Division II or Division I schools, get my name out there and hopefully get some offers,” he said. “And the end goal is just go play at a good school that wants me.”
