Prospect Spotlight: Lucas Lorenzen (2022)
Okoboji is harboring one of the state’s best freshmen with 6-foot-3 guard Lucas Lorenzen.
The Pioneers used him last season as big-man, and Lorenzen filled that role well. It’s his ability to play from the perimeter, though, where he’s best. He came up as a point guard, after-all.
“I can make an impact at the guard or post position. I played point guard when I was young all the way up to eighth grade, and then I played the five spot this year for school ball and did pretty well,” said Lorenzen.
“I can handle the ball pretty well and get out and shoot it if I need to, and I think I can drive pretty well, too.”
As a freshman, Lorenzen had one of the better statistical seasons of anyone in Iowa’s Class of 2022, going for 15.4 points on 54% shooting, and 8.7 points per game.
“I’m really happy with how I played; coming in as a freshman it was a little nerve-wracking and I didn’t know how much of an impact I would make, but I thought I played really well and had a very strong role on the team,” said Lorenzen. “I had to bring it every day in practice and in games, and show up and just do my work.”
Now, the versatile prospect is playing with one of the state’s best 15u teams, Martin Brothers. It’s his first year playing with the program.
“I think it’s been going really well, I never knew these guys until about a month before our first tournament, but I think we play really well together and I think our team can do some damage in some tournaments,” said Lorenzen.
“A couple goals I have are to win a couple of these tournaments we have coming up here.”
