Prospect Spotlight: Ethan O’Donnell (2021)
Iowa City Liberty wing Ethan O’Donnell has begun to establish himself as a versatile prospect with a lot of upside.
At 6-foot-4, O’Donnell’s got the size to play several different positions, especially at the high school level. He’s working now to continue and evolve as a perimeter threat.
“I’m a pretty versatile player, I can play inside, I can shoot the ball outside, I can handle the ball if needed. I can pretty much play every position on the floor, I’m decently athletic and pretty quick,” said O’Donnell.
“I feel like I need to become more athletic, jump-higher, hit the weight-room and get stronger. I need to work more on my ball-handling and work on my defense.”
As a sophomore with the Lightning, O’Donnell averaged 10.2 points per game and led the team with 49 assists.
“My role was to be a leader, we didn’t really have a lot of juniors and seniors, so I got to be a leader. I needed to distribute the ball, and it was a good year,” said O’Donnell. “I got my numbers up from last year, but will be looking to improve again next season.”
O’Donnell will be looking to make major improvements this spring and summer with Iowa Mavericks-Villagrana, the program’s top 16u squad.
“We’re starting to really come together and play as a team. Everyone is just trying to improve their skill-set, and I’m trying to get more comfortable with some things that I don’t really get to do during the school season,” he said.
Recruitment is something that hasn’t started up yet for O’Donnell, but he’s not too concerned with that right now.
“I’m just focused on improving my skills and trying to be the best player that I can become,” he said.
