Prospect Spotlight: Dawson Forgy (2022)
Not many freshmen get the opportunity to start for their team at the state tournament, 5-foot-11 guard Dawson Forgy did.
The quick and athletic playmaker was a key contributor and starter, for a Winterset squad that made a run to the state semifinals last month.
It’s his ability to set teammates up for success and to lead at such a young age that were his best strengths.
“Mainly my play-making abilities are what I’m best at, I like passing the ball and getting everyone involved. I like playing fast and getting everyone involved, and I like leading a team and being a floor general,” said Forgy.
“Passing and driving to the hoop and dishing off is what I’m best at. What I’m working the most to improve is probably shooting.”
Forgy averaged 6.4 points on 50 percent shooting, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game as a freshman with the Huskies. That role will expand considerably next winter.
“My role on the team wasn’t to be a big scorer, it was more to play defense, keep the ball moving, get steals, things like that,” said Forgy.
“It was a really good season, not a lot of people get to play at state as a freshman. And next season, with Casey (Kleemeier) not being there, it will put more pressure on me to score the ball more and do a lot more with the team, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
In the meantime, Forgy will spend his spring and summer with Martin Bros 15U.
“I just want to win as many games as possible, get recognized more, get interest from colleges,” said Forgy. “And make sure my teammates get interest from colleges, too.”
