All of the major shoe teams will be playing, as well as many more talented independent teams. Everyone will be going all out in an effort to pull in some offers, and we at Northstar Hoops give you seven players who could take advantage of the opportunity, and boost their stock as Division One prospects.
Steven Crowl (6’10 2020 C, D1 Minnesota)- Steven is quickly ascending as a D1 prospect, and currently holds an offer from Northern Iowa. This season he is running with D1 Minnesota on the Adidas Gauntlet, where he was impressive in the first weekend of play with the abscence of Dawson Garcia, Ben Carlson, and Kendall Brown. The skilled post scorer has been beginning to hear from high major programs, and will look to turn that interest into some offers this weekend. His patience and footwork in the post allow him to get good looks without forcing much, and he is a tough finisher through contact. He has also been developing into a threat from outside, and hustles from rim to rim after rebounds. Steven will be in Dallas this weekend on the Adidas Gauntlet, and will look to extend his good run of play.
J’Vonne Hadley (6’6 2020 SG, Howard Pulley)- Like Crowl, J’Vonne Hadley is a prospect who has burst onto the scene as a Division One recruit, earning offers from South Dakota and Colorado State over recent months. He’ll look to bolster that offer list with a few more this weekend running with Howard Pulley on the Nike EYBL circuit. He has great size at the guard spot, and plays with a poise and patience not always found in a high school player. He can pull up from mid-range or from beyond the arc, getting shots up over smaller guards with ease. He put up big numbers during the high school season, and it will be exciting to see how his game translates into the highly competitive EYBL. Hadley is a definite prospect to keep an eye on in the live period and beyond.
Andrew Morgan (6’8 2021 F, Minnesota Heat)- The Prep Hoops Circuit is in its first season, and one of its top prospects is Andrew Morgan of Waseca. He dominated during the first session in Omaha with efficient scoring performances down low using his strength and touch around the rim. Andrew is a player who could really sling-shot his recruitment with a strong showing in the Prep Hoops Circuit live period event in Madison this weekend. Coaches looking for a strong post player with advanced strength, finishing, and rebounding are sure to take notice in the state ranked top-10 2021 player in Andrew Morgan.
Gabe Madsen (6’5 2020 G, Wisconsin PGC)- Though he doesn’t receive the most coverage during the high school season due to playing outside of the Twin Cities, Gabe Madsen has proven to be one of the state’s most lethal scorers. A dominant player in isolation, Gabe can create his own shots with a variety of dribbling combos and crafty footwork. A great shooter both off the dribble and in catch-and-shoot situations, Gabe will be playing with Wisconsin PGC on the Under Armour Association. He holds offers from Marquette, Green Bay, Northern Iowa, and Bradley at this stage of his recruitment, but is a guy that we see adding some high major offers this AAU season.
Will Tschetter (6’8 2021 F, Minnesota Heat)- Andrew Morgan’s partner in the frontcourt for Minnesota Heat, Will Tschetter is another top-10 player in Minnesota’s 2021 class. A really skilled and versatile forward, Will operates as a bit of a stretch-four. At 6’8 he has the size and skill to score inside, but knocked down threes at nearly a 40% rate during the high school season. Will also brings great mobility and the the athleticism to finish above the rim to the floor. Last weekend in Omaha he was making his presence felt, before missing the last few games of the weekend. Tschetter will once again look to dominate on both ends as he and his Minnesota Heat teammates will look to impress in Madison during the live period.
Nate Heise (6’4 2020 G, Minnesota Fury)- Already holding some big time Division 2 offers, could Heise be a guy that develops into a Division One prospect? He has the size and shooting ability to do so as a player that can run either guard spot. Heise is a guy we saw stand out all season long on Lake City, but was most impressive standing out on a Fury squad that is loaded with other talented prospects last weekend in Omaha. He is an efficient scorer who can knock down threes at a high rate, while also getting to the rim and finishing with strength and explosiveness. Fury will be one of the top 17u teams to watch on the Prep Hoops Circuit this weekend, and Nate Heise is a big reason why.
Chet Holmgren (7′ 2021 C, Grassroots Sizzle)- Chet is a player who has been widely talked about throughout Minnesota for the past year, but makes this list as a guy who is starting his breakout as a nationally known prospect. After a huge outing on the Under Armour Association a few weeks ago, Chet started gaining national recognition for his offensive skill and shot blocking abilities as a seven footer. Already holding numerous high major offers, could this be the weekend we start to hear about some blue blood programs getting involved? Chet can shoot the lights out from three, is already one of the top shot blockers the state of Minnesota has ever seen, and plays with a fiery passion on both ends of the court. Playing alongside Jalen Suggs the Division One coaches are sure to flock to whichever court Grassroots Sizzle is playing on, and if they don’t know about Chet now, they’re sure to know about him when the game is over.
