With the focus shifted towards the grassroots season, don’t be surprised to see some of the guys start separating themselves from the pack. College programs at every level should be able to find plenty of talent in this class. Take a look at some of the things we noticed about the class.
Top of Class: The guy that stands above the rest is Jayden Stone. Stone has a unique mixture of size, athleticism, and skill. At 6’3 Stone can play the 1 and 2. The combo guard is a 3 level scorer and a very hungry player. This AAU season, Stone is focused on showing off his playmaking and improved decision making.
Perimeter Size: This class is loaded with perimeter players. These guys are talented and have great size/length for their positions. In the top 30, there are 14 perimeter players that measured 6’3 and over. Having length on the perimeter allows teams to guard differently and play guys at multiple spots.
Top 10 Newbie: By the end of the prep season, Mark Sears took his play to another level and firmly planted himself in the top 10. This kid can play. He has great vision and can score at every level. He’s very crafty off the bounce.
Athleticism: From top to bottom, this class is loaded with athletes. You got guys like Antwan Burnett, Austin Harvell, Jamel King, Cameron Boozer, Dee Beckwith, Martavius Payton, Tyler Woodard, and Kris Abrams-Draine that are athletic freaks. These guys can run, jump, and fly all over the court.
The 5 Returns: The 2020 class has quality pieces at the 5. Rongie Gordon, Cameron Boozer, Zameron Boozer, Reginald Perry, Jonnivius Smith, Shannon Grant, Andres Burney, and Cole Larue are guys that can play the 5 at the next level. This group has a great mixture of size, athleticism, and skill.
Gem Watch: There are several players that could have breakout AAU seasons. Five guys that come to mind are Shannon Grant, Sam Youngblood, Corey Boston, Chance Beard, and Tavion Williams. Watch for these guys to make some serious noise and carry momentum into the school year.
