Xavier Cork / 6’9″ / C / Sulphur Springs / 2019
Cork hardly made an impact offensively against San Antonio Wagner, but it was his activity on the glass and on the defensive end that made him stand out. The extremely long big man was blocking and altering shots each time a Wagner Thunderbird attempted a shot inside. He finished with a productive statline of eight rebounds and five blocks in the 5A semifinal loss.
Rodrigo Soares / 6’3″ / SF / Mansfield Timberview / 2019
Soares (featured image) came into the championship game feeling it. He was locked, loaded, and ready to fire from downtown each time his teammates found him. What also needs to be talked about, was his ability to get physical and grab rebounds on both ends. Extra things like this (outside of his shooting ability) increases his value. He scored 13 points in both games and left the Alamodome a state champion.
Keiman Capers / 6’5″ / PF / Galena Park North Shore / 2019
Capers can always be relied upon to compete and play physical. He finished well inside and was active in corralling rebounds throughout his 23 minutes of play. His final stat line in the Duncanville loss was 8 points and six rebounds.
Kayden Rose / 6’2″ / SG / Houston Yates / 2019
Rose is one of multiple Lions that can go get a bucket. The strong guard has a pretty stroke from long range and is not fazed by late contests. He left an imprint on the 4A semifinal game scoring 18 points while going 7-8 from the foul line.
De’Vaughn Rider / 5’11″ / SG / Cibolo Steele / 2019
Rider brought a tremendous amount of energy off the bench for Steele in the first half vs. Klein Forest. He picked-off passes, competed on the glass, and ignited the crowd in transition. His play was huge for the Knights, but not enough to propel them to the 6A semifinal win over the Eagles.
