We have rivalry games, big time prospects and many other aspects that should all lead to some interesting games. With the majority of the boys’ games being played at ECU which is in close proximity to the schools that qualified for Regional Championships, the environment should be outstanding.
4A Matchup South Central HS vs Millbrook
This is the game that just about everyone across the state wants to see, South Central has been dominate all season long with their only loss coming to a nationally ranked opponent. However for some reason they were dropped to #3 in the state tournament while Millbrook was given a #1 seed, so clearly this game is going to be intense. Both teams have size, skilled players and have won at a high rate all season long. South Central is led by their Seniors Jahzeer Baker, Shykiem Phillips and Sha’Quan Jones as well as junior big man Dayron Sharpe. South Central guards are absolutely ferocious on defense and any can go for 20+ points at any given time which makes them a very difficult bunch to try and stop. Millbrook gets it done by committee as well with contributions from Senior Guards Collin Lewis, Isaiah Lewis and Phillip Burwell who had a big time game in their matchup vs 71st HS with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 6 Assist. Sophomore Will Felton is also one to keep an eye on as the 6’7 big has plenty of upside and could very well be one to have college coaches after him in the future.
3A Matchup Eastern Alamance vs Walter M Williams
Neither of these teams have much buzz going for them but they both have put together some impressive seasons to get to this point. Eastern Alamance comes in with a record of 29-1 on the year, they feature multiple players that are prospects such as Seniors LJ Rodgers and Na’Zae Baltimore. Baltimore has been a beast scoring and rebounding the ball, in the last two games the 6’5 forward is averaging 26 points and 15 Rebounds. LJ Rodgers has been solid throughout the season averaging about 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assist on a nightly basis. Walter M Williams enters the matchup with a record of 26-3, they may not be the deepest team but they definitely have some talented players. One of the names that you should know is Senior Guard Nasir Johnson who has been playing at a high level just about all season. He’s averaging just under 20 PPG and has decent size for a guard at about 6’1, if his squad hopes to pull off the win, they will need a nice showing from him on both ends of the floor.
