South Central wins the 4A State Championship
4A State Championshipp
South Central (30-1) 72, West Charlotte (25-7) 46
Day’Ron Sharpe, the 6-10 235, junior big man, led the way with 23 points and 13 rebounds as South Central High School, of the small town of Winterville, just south of Greenville, defeated long-time North Carolina powerhouse West Charlotte High School 72-46 to win the first state championship in their young history.
Sharpe, who has already committed to the University of North Carolina, dominated inside play. Senior guards, Jahzeer Baker and Shykeim Phillips added 18 and 12 points for Coach Chris Cherry’s champs. Baker also contributed five rebounds and four assists.
Patrick Williams led West Charlotte led his team with 18 points, 14 of which came in the second half while fellow senior Quinten Thomas scored 13 points.
South Central led 17-6, after one and 35-19 at the half. The teams played it even at 27-27 in the second half and the margin remained at 16 as South Central took the win 72-46. Williams has signed to play at Florida State University.

Bishop McGuinness wins the 1A State Title
Bishop McGuinness 55, Henderson Collegiate 54
Bishop McGuinness defeated Henderson Collegiate 55-54 to win the 1A State Championship. The Kernersville based champions, a number nine seed, won in the first two rounds, by margins of 10 points and 14 points.
The “Villains”, then won the next three games in their Cinderella run to the title, by margins of three, three and three, before their scintillating one-point championship game victory.
Andrew Budzinski, a 6-3 junior, led Coach Josh Thompson’s squad with 23 points on 10-10 shooting from the floor. Cameron Caroway, a 6-6 senior added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners.
Henderson Collegiate had led 17-9 after one quarter, 28-25 at the half and 45-41 after three quarters, before Bishop outscored Collegiate 14-9 in the fourth to take the 55-54 win and the 1A State Championship. Javonte Waverly led Henderson with 13 points, while Kaleb Brooks scored 11 points.
Carraway led in Bishop McGuinness in scoring for the season with a 17 points per game scoring average and he also got seven rebounds per contest.
Jake Ledbetter averaged 15 points and five assists per game for Bishop, while Andrew Budzinski
