2A State Finals: Prospect Evaluations

Did you miss any of the 2A action in Peoria over the weekend? We have you covered! Check out our evaluations of prospects from all four teams at the Illinois 2A State Finals here!

SF Tujautae Williams (Orr – 2019)

Williams is the top uncommitted 2019 prospect in the state. The athletic 6’6” small forward has long strides and an explosive burst getting to the rim. He was quiet early in the championship game, but erupted late with a few spectacular takes including a poster dunk. Pretty much won when he really wanted too off the dribble in Peoria. Length and quickness project him well defensively and he rebounds for a wing. Finished with 10 points.

SF Sherif Kenney (Orr – 2019)

The transfer from out of state put on a show to close out his career. He bounced around high schools and missed a big chunk of his senior year, but when Orr needed him the most Kenney was magnificent. We saw Orr a ton in the first half of the season before Kenney began playing, but this weekend was our first look at him. Will definitely debut fairly high in the final 2019 rankings. Big bodied 6’5” small forward that is light on his feet for his size. Opened the title game up with a pull up three. He would force a few from there flat footed. He was crafty off the bounce being shifty with it in the lane. Plays bully ball in the paint against weaker defenders. Handles it well for a player his size and is an impressive passer as he showed in the semis working well in the middle of a zone or starting the offense playing on the ball at the top of the key. He had 19 points in the title game.

SG Greg Outlaw (Orr – 2019)

Outlaw is a strong and uber athletic 6’4” wing that burst on our radar with his play last spring on the circuit. His game continues to evolve. Much more comfortable shooting the basketball as he knocked down an array of mid-range pull ups and a corner three. Overall the skill set is starting to be more consistent. Freak show athlete that can slash and finish through contact at the rim. Scored 15 points in the semis and 11 points in championship.

G Terry Williams (Orr – 2019)

Williams is a prospect that contributed last year for Orr in a reserve role on their title team. He was their star on Friday night in the semis. The combo guard at 6’1” is a plus shooter that nailed three triples. He is almost automatic when he has his feet set and has a clean look. Fluid shot. Showed his more than just a shooter. Pushed in transition off defensive stops. Scrappy defender. Williams had 21 points in the semis.

PG Michael Taylor (Orr – 2019)

Taylor is a defender first and foremost. That is what the 6’1” point guard did throughout the weekend. He is a tough on ball defender that uses his quickness laterally and defensive smarts to cause havoc. Can score an occasional bucket often generated by his defense.

SG Carson Parker (Nashville – 2020)

Outstanding game from Parker in the semis. The junior is primed for a big summer as he is getting looks from D1 and D2 programs. Played both on and off the ball throughout the night. Handles it well against tight defense. Parker is usually a pretty effective three point shooter, but all his shots were inside the arc going 6-12 from the field. Did a lot of his damage inside getting on the offensive glass, give and goes, drives to the hoop, and an alley-oop. Went for 17 points and 9 boards. In the championship he had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

PG Bryce Bultman (Nashville – 2019)

Bultman is the #29 prospect in the senior class and is a steal for local D2 McKendree. The 6’5” point guard has excellent size for position with the ability to see over the defense. He is a slick passer that made several outstanding dishes in the half court. Multiple crisp drives off the dribble where he got by his man for a score at the rim. Not the most athletic guy he knows how to take quality angles and use his body to shield the ball. He had 13 points and 7 rebounds. Struggled some with turnovers in the championship, but still managed 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 dimes.

F Terry Pelczynski (Nashville – 2020)

Pelczynski had flashes in the title game with a couple strong drives. The 6’6” combo forward has some physicality to him and is and inside-out threat. He is a kid that can rebound and space the floor. Will have a bigger role next season.

SF Ryland Holt (Gibson City – 2019)

Holt is the #19 prospect in the senior class and is headed to Minnesota State next season, but first he led his team into the semis on an epic winning streak. The 6’6” combo forward is a 4/3 at the next level, but did most of his damage on the interior in this game. He is so quick and explosive off the floor getting to the glass. Excellent second jump allowed him to get several boards. Scored multiple and-1s on quick moves from the mid-post area. Got to the line a lot where he was 7-8. Hit his only three of the game toward the end. Scored 18 points and grabbed 12 boards. In the 3rd place game he had 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

G Ben Freehill (Gibson City – 2019)

This 6’1” senior provided a spark for his team. He hit a deep three. Banked in a shot. Got an offensive rebound put back off his own miss. Scrappy defender that gets in passing lanes. He had 10 points.

SG Connor Birky (Gibson City – 2019)

Birky is a two guard that went 2-6 from beyond the arc in the semis. Effective shooter both off the catch and pulling up. Also flashed to the middle before converting a layup for his 8 points.

PG Dhashon Dyson (Corliss – 2019)

Dyson is a player that has flown under our radar over the last year. This 6’1” combo is a scorer first and foremost. Early in the semifinal game he struggled getting to the rim off the bounce. That opened up once he began knocking down pull up jumpers one after another. Took a lot of contested shots and made quite a few. As the game went on he put combination moves together to get in the lane for buckets. Dyson went for 22 points.

SF Leondre Townsen (Corliss – 2019)

Townsen has size for position at 6’6”. Showed explosion on a couple of strong takes off the bounce. That included a monster dunk. Hit a three from the corner. Struggled with a couple turnovers in the open floor. Went for 12 points. Has some developmental upside at the next level.

C Joseph Doyle (Corliss – 2019)

Doyle is a big body inside at 6’10” 220 pounds. He didn’t score in their semifinal loss to Orr, but was effective on the glass grabbing 7 rebounds. Has to refine the offensive game. Will definitely find a home somewhere at the next level.

PG Nashawn Townsen (Corliss – 2021)

Townsen flashed off the bench for Corliss. The 5’10” point guard has a long and rangy frame. Nice looking shot from deep and can hit a floater. Fluid athlete had 5 points.
