Heading into halftime, 7 seed Curtis trailed 1 seed Union 33-28. The leading scorer for Curtis were Zach Paulsen, despite obviously being compromised with an apparent ankle injury still chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds. For Union, Ethan Smith put up 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Both teams benefited from a balanced attack, as both teams had 6 players score in the first half.
Heading to the forth, Union held on to a slim 3 point lead. Brad Lackey found his rhythm in the second half hitting 3 threes after going 1-6 in the first half.
Despite trailing the whole game, Jordan Parker scores an and one lay up to take the lead with just under 1:40 left in the game.
In the final seconds, Union had one last shot to tie the game but it fell short and the upset was complete. 1 seed Union was knocked off by 7 seed Curtis in a thriller.
Paulsen finishes with 22 points and the game clinching free throws,
Union’s Ethan Smith finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds.
