In Round 1 Hillside got good production across the board with four players in double figures, while Terry Sanford was led in scoring by Junior Guard Jay Hickman with 21 points in their win.
Westover vs South Johnston: The Wolverines will have a challenge on their hands as they host a feisty squad in South Johnston tonight, the keys to this matchup could very well be the 2020 forwards on both squads. Westover Forward Traymond Willis-Shaw is a talented prospect that has the height, wingspan and skills to play at the D1 level if he stays locked in and aggressive consistently. South Johnston Forward Carel Ray is an upcoming prospect of his own, he’s put in some work this season with double/double games and is showing his potential. Both of these young men don’t have any offers yet but they are names that colleges have on their watch list for 2020.
Pinecrest vs Athens Drive: The PG matchup is what you will want to watch for in this game, Athens Drive features Northern Kentucky signee DJ Robertson who is a downhill guard that can be tough to stop when he gets it going. Pinecrest has a special guard of their own in sophomore guard Bradlee Haskell, he’s played well this year putting up some big time numbers and helping his team win games.
Pine Forest vs Knightdale: This should be a competitive game without a doubt, but if you’re a person that like‘s highlights, this will be the place that you want to be. Knightdale Sophomore Jalen McDonald had the internet buzzing with a poster dunk he threw down on Tuesday, but Pine Forest has a high flyer of its own in Miles Ray. Ray is a solid scorer but his ability to finish above the rim and protect the rim defensively are some of the things that you have to like about his game.
Northwest Guilford vs Myers Park: NWGHS comes into this one as the favorite but after seeing Myers Park earlier this season, we know that they will bring their A game tonight. NWGHS 2020 Guard Christian Hampton is a player that we really like, he’s athletic, strong and is one of the more efficient scorers that you will see. Myers Park also has a Guard that we like in Unsigned Senior Caleb McReed, he understands the game and knows how to get into the gaps of the defense to make winning plays for his team.
Richmond County vs Independence: We got the chance to see Richmond County last week and were impressed with how well they play as a team. One of the players on their squad that will need to have a big time game is Unsigned Senior Alex Quick. He’s about 6’5 with a nice skillset and the ability to put up some big time scoring numbers once he gets it going. Independence has a Guard that we like in Unsigned Senior Guard Anthony Allen, he doesn’t have monster numbers but he plays the game with a confidence that you have to love during tournament time. Some players feel like they are the best player on the court and that they are going to win every game, Anthony is one of those guys.
