With the amount of competitive teams all across the state, there are plenty of opportunities for teams to rack up quality wins and pick up positive momentum.
Here are the teams that had particularly good weeks
Class A: Ada-Borup
Ada-Borup is undefeated on the season and looks like the favorite (along with Cass Lake-Bena again) to come out of Section 8 at this point thanks to an experienced and balanced core of perimeter pieces and a stud big man in Mason Miller. The Cougars earned two solid wins last week, beating Mahnomen/Waubun 68-55 in Mahnomen before taking out Norman County East 64-61 at home. They also beat Park Christian Saturday to improve to 20-0 on the season.
Class AA: Caledonia
The Warriors have quietly gone 19-5 this season and while they aren’t the state-title contending powerhouse they’ve been in recent years, this Caledonia team is still one of the best in Section 1AA and the state. They all but secured another Three Rivers Conference title last week, beating Rushford-Peterson and La Crescent-Hokah on back-to-back nights. Caledonia is 14-0 in conference play and still has a chance to earn the top seed in Section 2AA with a strong finish to the regular season.
Class AAA: Waseca
The Bluejays are still undefeated on the season and looking like a legitimate contender to play for the Class AAA state title. They picked up a pair of good wins last week, beating Big South-East conference foe St. Peter 85-69 on Friday. The Jays picked up perhaps their best win of the season Saturday when they beat Minneapolis North, 77-64 behind 24 points from senior guard Malik Willingham.
Class AAAA: Buffalo
The Bison stayed in the hunt to win the Mississippi 8 Conference with a pair of good wins last week, starting out by beating Monticello 72-71 Tuesday and following it by beating St. Michael-Albertville, the top team in the league, 63-47. Tony Dahl, one of four double-figure scorers for Buffalo, led the way in the win over STMA, with 21 points.
