There are still two weeks left in the regular season but several leagues and conferences are still up for grabs. While teams like Chaminade-Julienne and Trotwood-Madison have already clinched, several teams still have some work to do. Here are a few of the league races still up for grabs.
GWOC North
Sidney and Butler are locked for a tie at 10-2. Butler has matchups with Troy, Tippecanoe, and the much-anticipated rematch with Sidney. For Sidney, matchups with Piqua and Greenville and then Butler is what’s left. Assuming both teams win their other matchups, the winner of the rematch will determine the division champion for the second season. Sidney already defeated Butler once this season, but I am sure the rematch will be another tight matchup.
GWOC East
Springfield is currently holding the #1 spot at 9-1, but they have not clinched yet. Wayne sits in second at 8-2 while Centerville comes right behind at 7-2. For Springfield, it is pretty simple; beat Wayne and Fairmont and clinch another division title. The Wildcats have already defeated both teams once this season. For Wayne, it is a much tougher path to win a title. A victory over Springfield would help, but then their finale comes against Centerville, who has been the hottest team in Dayton thus far. For Centerville, it starts with a win against Fairmont and Beavercreek, and then ends with their rematch with Wayne. This division is such a wide-open race yet.
GWOC West
Lebanon currently holds the advantage at 5-4 with Miamisburg in 2nd at 4-5. For Lebanon, it is pretty simple. Beat Miamisburg and win an outright GWOC title. They can’t overlook the Springboro game, especially if the Warriors can’t defeat Miamisburg. Miamisburg needs to defeat Lebanon to even keep their chances alive. After that, defeating Northmont will allow them to at least have a share of the GWOC title, assuming they defeat Lebanon. The Warriors have already been defeated by Miamisburg once and will create quite the rematch on Friday.
SWBL Southwestern
One win. That’s all Brookville needs to clinch. Their first chance will come against Franklin. If for some reason the Blue Devils lose, their game against Valley View will serve the second chance to win the division. For Monroe to win a share of the title, they need to defeat Bellbrook and hope for Brookville to lose both of their games. Franklin needs to beat Brookville and then Oakwood and again will need Brookville to then lose against Valley View to share the title. Oakwood also hasn’t been eliminated yet, but would need to win against Bellbrook and Franklin to even have a chance. There are several ways this division can play out if Brookville loses out. But one win and the Blue Devils have the title in the bag.
CBC Kenton Trail
It’s a two-team race between two non-Dayton teams. London is sitting at 7-1 and Jonathan Alder is right behind at 6-1. For London, a victory against Tecumseh and then win against Alder will clinch the title for them. For the Pioneers, Kenton Ridge and Shawnee stand in the way before the matchup with London. Alder has already beaten London by 18, but I have some concern if they will be able to finish off Shawnee and Kenton Ridge. They have defeated both teams once already, but there is a better chance of the Pioneers losing to one of these matchups then London losing to Tecumseh.
