The 2019 class has a nice crop of wing players with size, athleticism, and ball skill. This article dissects 5 players that college coaches need to have on the board.
Malik Tyson (Sparkman): Tyson is a competitor. He’s 6’4. He has a Paul Pierce type body. Malik has been on a steady rise as one of the best prospects in the state. He can score from anywhere on the court, and he is very confident in his game. Tyson is averaging 25-7-5 per game. Defensively, Tyson can guard 1-4, and he is an active defender (2 steals and 1 block per game). Malik is a prospect that has received D1 and JUCO interest.
Indrek Sunelik (Nation Prep): Sunelik may be the most improved player overall. Indrek is long armed and now listed at 6’7-6’8. He is sneaky athletic and can score at all three levels. Indrek’s best offensive tool is his shooting ability. He is a marksman. Sunelik is coachable and has a high basketball IQ. On the year, he is averaging 20-8-5 and shooting over 40% from 3. Sunelik is a MM level prospect.
Luke Goss (Cherokee Co): Goss is 6’4 and plays out of position for his high school. At the next level, Luke will play the 3 primarily. He is a smart and tough nosed player. Goss has deep range, and he is very comfortable attacking from midrange. For a perimeter player, he is a very good rebounder and shot blocker. Recently, Goss posted a career game of 38 points, 13 boards, and 5 blocks. Luke has interest from schools at every NCAA level.
Larry Penn (Columbia): Penn is a very versatile player at 6’5. He plays 1-4 for Columbia and is a team first guy. Penn is a really good defender especially from help side. This kid has become very comfortable with the ball in his hands. Larry is a scoring threat from all 3 levels now, and has shown more consistency. D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCOS need to be all over this kid.
Christian Fortner (Thorsby): Fortner may be the best kept secret in this position group. The 6’5 prospect is long and does it all. Christian is averaging 26-9-4 on the season. He can score from three levels, and Fortner shoots 36% from 3. He’s a really good finisher off offensive rebounds. Defensively, he can guard multiple spots and is a great shot blocker (4.5 bpg). D2, D3, and NAIA level recruit.
