It is very important to have the ability to slide to multiple positions as a guard. Guards become extremely valuable when they can guard multiple positions, quarterback the offense, and have the offensive talent to play without the ball.
Kareem Thompson (Florence): Thompson is a rare talent. At 6’5, he has size to play all 3 perimeter spots, but more importantly Kareem possess the skill set necessary to slide to all 3 spots. Kareem is athletic enough to guard every perimeter spot and is very active (2.8 spg, 24 charges, and 68 deflections). Offensively, Kareem is very smooth with ball. He has good vision, can finish at the rim, and knock down open 3s (41.4%). Kareem’s unselfishness and team first attitude standout every time he hits the floor. On the season, Thompson has averaged 12-7-4, and has a low turnover percentage. Coaches at every level should be in contact with Thompson.
Eddie Smith (Huffman): Smith is a hard nosed competitor and the chops to play both guard spots. Eddie has averaged 19-3-3 for the season. The 6’2 guard can score at all three levels, but he is a very good mid range scorer. Smith also has good defensive awareness and has a knack for finding the ball. The 6’2 guard has primarily received D2 interest and offers.
CJ Wright (Stanhope Elmore): The best way to describe the 6’1 guard is explosive. Offensively and defensively, CJ is just a very explosive and athletic player. With that type of ability, everything looks easy for CJ. He can score at all three levels, but CJ is at his best in transition and attacking the rim. Defensively, Wright has very good awareness and instinct. D2, NAIA, and JUCO schools looking for an athlete should contact CJ.
Zyon Smith (Park Crossing): At 6’3, Smith has the perfect size for playing both guard spots. Zyon is a very gifted scorer with a strong frame for finishing at the rim. Smith also has the ability to knock down jumpers with ease. An underrated aspect of Zyon is his movement without the ball. Zyon always finds a way to get open. Recently, Smith he received an offer from Wallace St CC, but he is a kid all levels need to be aware of.
JC Norris (Huntsville): The 6’1 guard is a leader. Norris is the kind of kid anyone would love to have on the roster. He’s extremely coachable and loves to compete. Norris can guard both guard spots, and JC has the skill set to play on or off the ball. He has a very smooth jumper and has shot the ball at a high percentage. This season, JC has averaged 15 points and has shot over 40% from 3. Coaches at the D2, D3, and NAIA levels need to contact this kid.
