The dynamic sophomore persevered through first half foul trouble and dropped 24 during a convincing road win at Gonzaga last week. Keels has been thrust into a bigger role than expected, but was clearly prepared for the increase in usage.
“I’d say I’m more explosive,” Keels said of the improvements he made during the offseason. “My jump shot has also improved.”
We saw evidence of this in that win at Gonzaga. Keels hit 4 of 5 from deep, showcasing a smooth and confident stroke. It’s fair to point out that his ball-handling, which is often an overlooked aspect of his overall game, has improved and looks particularly sharp this season.
“I’m still working on going left,” Keels stated.
Keels is doing well off the court, where he has a 3.5 GPA. He says Geometry is his favorite class while History is the most challenging. Keels has a couple of high D1 offers at the moment, but we expect that number to grow exponentially over time. In the interim, Keels says his primary concern is to help the team achieve it’s goals.
“Our goal is to win the WCAC. Also to keep our chemistry strong like it is now.”
Trevor Keels is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as the #2 overall prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Virginia’s 2021 class, click here.
