Most Intriguing Prospects: Oswego vs Plainfield East

Oswego hosted Plainfield East on Friday night. The host squad jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the opening minutes. Plainfield East rallied to keep it a tight contest through three quarters. At the end of the third Oswego led 50-47. After that they would dominate the fourth quarter as Oswego pushed the lead winning by a final of 70-54. Here are our Most Intriguing Prospects: Oswego vs Plainfield East.

SG Dylan Engler (Oswego – 2019)

Engler is a 6’5” wing who is in the top 100 of the senior class rankings. What you have to like about what Engler brings to the table is his high skill level. Handles the ball well for his size winning off the bounce multiple times with a burst on the first step. Couple acrobatic conversions in the lane on spinning and scoop shots. Hit a three off the catch. Sound form. Plus passer that actually has a really good passing feel on the wing. Rebounded at a high level as well. Can take it off the defensive glass and push the other way starting the break. He had 16 points and 7 rebounds.

PG Jack Kahoun (Oswego – 2020)

Kahoun is a junior point guard that has been on the radar for a while, but this was probably the best we have seen him play. The 6’2” point guard was excellent passing in the lane. Found his teammates for layups and open shots throughout the game. As a scorer he had it working draining three triples from the wings and corners with his pure shooting stroke. Also got to the rim on drives and in transition finishing with creativity at the rim. Went for 20 points.

C Connor McCance (Oswego – 2020)

McCance is a 6’8” junior center with legit size and strength in the post. Definitely a throwback five man that can anchor down low. He has good footwork and excellent hands catching and finishing quick passes in the paint. Efficient with his touches. Best post move was a crafty reverse layup. Also stretched it out on a baseline jumper in the pick/pop game. Didn’t rebound at a very high rate. Like what he brought to the table as a post defender walling up on the interior and blocking a couple shots while altering others. He had 13 points.

SF Christian Shumate (Plainfield East – 2020)

Shumate was the highest ranked prospect in this game. The 6’5” 2020 prospect is a super bouncy wing that excels getting up and down. He never quite got in a rhythm offensively and played pretty much inside most of the night. Scored on a quick post up and had a nice tip slam in transition, but offensively he was quiet other than that. Missed the only three he took. Wasn’t overly assertive on the offensive end. Defensively he did a solid job. Quick to the glass with his bounce off the floor. Shot blocking presence. Got a couple steals as well. Projectable wing with upside because of his elite athleticism. He had 5 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

SG Nick Smoldt (Plainfield East –2020)

Smoldt is an angular 6’2” shooting guard with skill potential. He displayed that knocking down a pair of corner threes. Also got in the lane for a runner and finished a layup off a steal. One to watch this summer. He scored 8 points.

G Yamani Shareef (Plainfield East – 2019)

Shareef had quite a night. The 6’2” combo guard was most comfortable as a scorer. Strong guard that played with a high activity level. Got in the lane for layups and runners. Tough around the hoop as was shown on a couple early put backs en route to his 18 points on the night.
