Getting off to a 17-11 lead early were the Tygers, in large part to Roger Merrell’s eight first quarter points.
But, In the second quarter, Senior held Pleasant to just five points, taking a 31-16 lead to the half. Mansfield played great defense all game, led by Tavion Harris who has five steals on the game.
After three quarters, Mansfield Senior pushed their lead to 49-24. But, the comfortable lead would get down to 14 after Nick Kimmel caught fire in the fourth. Scoring 9 of his team-high 17 points in the closing quarter.
Mansfield Senior moves to 11-2 on the season, however, Marion Pleasant is still at a strong 11-4 on the year as well.
Five Postgame Questions:
How did Mansfield execute as good of a defensive performance as they did?
Mansfield Senior is a very physical team. Counting 17 turnovers forced before the final quarter, the Tygers made it very difficult for Marion Pleasant all night. But, the main culprit was Senior Tavion Harris, who recorded five steals on the game. However Tavion and the whole team played the passing lanes well, and used physicality to their advantage.
How good can Mansfield Senior be?
With just two losses on the season. To two tough teams in Dublin Coffman and Lexington, Mansfield Senior should be able to compete for their conference. Probably not a team that makes it to the state final four, but I could see Senior picking up a couple tourney wins. However, when healthy, Mansfield Senior has the depth to run with anyone, especially when they get key players back including Angelo Grose.
Who is the best shooter on the court?
This one really comes down to two player, Nick Kimmel of Marion Pleasant and Quan Hillory Of Mansfield. However, tonight’s performance it is definitely Kimmel. The Pleasant Senior has the green light from deep, also does a great job of creating space. With four three-pointers in the game, the unsigned Spartan relied on some solid shot selection. Furthermore, Division three and JUCO programs should take notice of the combo guard.
What is the ceiling for Marion Pleasant
Marion Pleasant is a team that can be a force in D3 bracket, when they’re playing their brand of ball. The duo of Ethan Warner and Nick Kimmel controls what Pleasant does. Expect a top two finish in the MOAC for the Spartans, but it shouldn’t stop there. However, the central district is in no means easy in division three, but if Pleasant can get hot, we could see a bit of a run.
Who was the player of the game?
Quan Hillory effected this game in multiple ways. But with 20 points, Hillory did a lot of damage from deep as he usually does. Hitting four three-pointers in the game. Also, the Senior was also a factor on the defensive side, totaling two steals. Hillory is a solid creator for this Mansfield Senior team, picking up 3 assists. Also, should note, the tough on-ball defense of the Tyger that won’t show up on the stat sheet.
