1) Bossier (21-3)
I will be honest, as of right now, the 4A state championship is Bossier’s to lose. I think that they are head and shoulders above the rest of the competition, and it has really been that way all season. They have more talent than anyone else in their class, and they have knocked off some of the toughest teams in the state, regardless of class. Their three losses this season have come against what I consider top 5 programs in the state, and they haven’t lost a single game against a real competitor in 4A.
2) Breaux Bridge (22-3)
Who comes in number two in 4A is probably the toughest decision that had to be made on this list. Ultimately I decided to give the spot to Breaux Bridge, who has some pretty impressive wins, but also has some losses that are pretty tough to look over. They are lead by a trio of juniors in Deandre Hypolite, Trevonte Sylvester, and Dalton Alexander, all of which are capable of getting 20 any night.
3) Woodlawn-Shreve (20-5)
Woodlawn-Shreve is the other team that was in competition for the number 2 spot, but coming off another night in which they weren’t able to get a win over Bossier, it was tough to put them at that spot. Now that isn’t to say that they aren’t capable of getting that win. They probably have the best win in all 4A with a win over Rayville earlier this season, which is a win better than any of the wins that Bossier has had this year. However, Woodlawn also has a couple losses on their resume that they probably shouldn’t have, so for now they will reside in the number 3 spot.
4) Leesville (21-3)
When you first look at Leesville’s 21-3 record, and 2nd place in the 4A power rankings, it is easy to wonder why they aren’t higher on this list. However, once you begin to dig a little more into their schedule and their roster, it is easy to see why. They have played by far the easiest schedule of anyone in the top 5, and even then they have given games away that they shouldn’t have. They also don’t have anyone on their roster that is over 6’3, which will just be a tough way to win once the playoffs come around. However, I have to tip my cap to Leesville, who has gotten into the top 5 in 4A for the first time in Prep Hoops Louisiana history.
5) Carencro (15-8)
Carencro is another example of simply looking at their record might be a little deceiving. They have played one of the toughest schedules in 4A, and there is only one loss on their resume that looks like they really let slip away. They are also coming off a state title from last year, but I will be honest, I was expecting this year to be a bit of a rebuilding year after the number of seniors that graduated. However, Coach Christopher Kovatch really has the Bears rolling, which got them at the number 5 spot in our rankings. I think they will be just fine with that ranking as well, as they were the 5th seed in 4A last season when they capture the state championship.
