Now that the calendar has turned from 2018 to 2019 and teams have entered conference play, let’s take a look at the 21st- through 25th-leading scorers in Colorado’s Class 3A and how they’re getting it done.
21. Tayt Chacon, 6-4, SF, University, 2022, 17.1 ppg
The only freshman scoring in the top 25 in either 3A, 4A or 5A, Chacon is already 6-foot-4 in 10th grade and has been making full use of his size through the first 11 games of his high school career. He is shooting 44 percent from 3-point range, grabbing 4.5 rebounds a game and dishing out 1.7 assists.
22. Nate Gravagno, 6-0, SF, Englewood, 2021, 17.0 ppg
Another up-and-coming young gun who’s putting up major point totals, Gravagno is averaging 17.0 points a night. He shoots the ball well (43 percent) from 3-point range, boxes out effectively (3.4 rebounds) and is active on defense (1.6 steals) already in his early prep career.
23. Jonathan Cosme, 6-1, F, KIPP Denver, 2020, 16.5 ppg
Not a particularly long player for a forward, Cosme has excellent instincts for rebounding, body positioning and timing. He’s averaging 11 rebounds and 16.5 points a night through eight games.
24. Dawson Walraven, 6-4, PF, Olathe, 2019, 16.5 ppg
Averaging over 16 points and eight rebounds, Walraven has done a good job of pacing the Pirates this season. Against Delta on Dec. 4, he finished the game with 21 points, 12 rebounds and three steals.
25. Walt Wiese, 5-9, G, Grand Valley, 2019, 16.3 ppg
A high volume 3-point shooter, Wiese makes an average of nearly four long balls a game. He’s also scoring over 70 percent of his 16.3 points per game via the 3-pointer while averaging 2.7 steals at the defensive end of the floor.
