Tyrell Terry and Jamison Battle are combining to score 51 points per game for the 5-3 DeLaSalle Islanders. DeLaSalle has beaten some of the better teams in the state and they’ve been beaten by NSP as well as a few teams from outside this state. Both Terry and Battle have sat games because of injury this year but both have had some sensational performances.
The second ranked team in the state is Princeton and they are another loaded squad with all state players. Jon Stimmler and James Flicek are both 17-18 point per game guys plus playing with them is 14 point per game shooter Adam Williams. At least one of these players would be All State today, if not a pair of them.
If you thought picking among Princeton was tough, what about Waseca? This undefeated group has a senior leader in Malik Willingham, a 20 plus per game sophomore in Andrew Morgan, and then Ryan Dufault and Kyreese Willingham are 15-16 a game guys too. Staying with the outstate talent theme, Jax Madson has Mankato East at 5-1 while Bemidji is undefeated led by 6-foot-8 senior big Spencer Konecne.
Then there’s Medi Obang putting up 28 a contest for Austin. The Packers had a loss they wish they had back but Obang has recorded 30 points a number of times. And don’t forget about Connor Bich of Hermantown scoring 25 plus a night for an 8-2 team. And one of the surprise teams of Class AAA is Sartell led by Thomas Gieske. Gieske is putting up nearly 29 a contest.
Making a push the last several weeks is PJ Hayes and Waconia. Hayes is scoring 24 a game and his team has picked up some big wins to rank sixth in state. Another team making a push into the rankings against a tough schedule is Totino-Grace and it’s Eric Krieger leading the way at 22 a contest. St. Thomas Academy is 5-4 versus a heavyweight schedule and Jack Thompson has put together a 21/6/4.5 a game season. Mahtomedi has a few more losses than they want but J’Vonne Hadley is putting up 28.4 points per game as the top junior in Class AAA basketball.
Others to consider are Matt Johnson of Fergus Falls, Mason Zick of Northfield, Logan Nagorski of Big Lake, Derek Techam of Delano, Treyton Thompson of Alexandria, Bradley Winter of Winona, Noah Puetz of Marshall, Kara Ojulu of Worthington, and Michael Gravelle of St. Cloud Apollo.
