Today we go baseline to baseline with a prospect who has made a big impact at his new high school. We will break down his strengths and weakness. Glance at the outlook of his future in basketball. Let me introduce to you Evan Palmquist 6’4 PG class of 2019 Concordia Lutheran High School (Tomball,TX) a TAPPS 6A school.
This is Evan’s first year playing with Concordia Lutheran. Great facilitator. Sees the floor very well. Has a high offensive and defensive IQ. Plays solid off the ball also. Shows his capabilities to be a catch and shooter at the next level. Evan has quick hands defensively, but he reaches a lot which gets him in foul trouble. Get’s lost in screens majority of the time. Strength for his size isn’t great, but will change once he’s on a college campus.
Evans is averaging 9.9 points per game, 5 assist per game, 2 steals per game, and has an assist to turnover ratio of 2.56. He is shooting 54% from the field and 33% from behind the arc with 31 trey balls made on the year so far. Concordia Lutheran is 7-0 in District and 30-1 overall on the season. They are the favorite to repeat as the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) State Champions. Last season they went 43-1 on the season. Last season he played with Magnolia High School a UIL 5A District 20 member. They went 23-10 overall and 12-2 in district play. They were eliminated in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Hey Evan are you ready to walk this 94 feet? Yes sir. Talk a little bit about tonight’s contest against Houston Christian. I was really hyped for this game and being able to play against a guy like Sahvir Wheeler. Plus knowing that it was a packed house and college coaches in the stands really made me bring it tonight. We played solid as a team. Talk a little bit about how recruitment is going for you right now. Recruitment is going really good. I just picked up two offers in the past week from McNeese State and the Naval Academy. I’m hoping to pick up a little more before i commit in the spring signing period. You guys have big expectations for the season this year from the community. Coming off a State Championship last year. What is your expectations as a new guy and a senior on this team? It’s a team full of seniors so we have a lot of basketball experience. Me and Monte as the new guys are grateful to contribute and be team players. Make that push to become state champions. RJ is going to continue the legacy after we are gone, so I would say Concordia Lutheran is in pretty good shape. Okay, talk about the elevation of your game. What areas have you improved the most from last year to this year? I have progressed a lot of the past year. My role at Magnolia was just to be a facilitator only. Over the AAU season playing with TBT. I was able to be more of a scorer which gave me confidence. Here i’m not just looked at a facilitator, but also a scorer. I’m allowed to showcase that I can play off the ball and shoot off of screens. So my confidence has played a huge factor in my scoring and facilitating capabilities.
I would like to thank Evan and his family for the interview. I also wish him and his teammates a very healthy season. For any recruitment questions about Evan please contact me or one of the Prep Hoops Texas staff members.
