Prospect Spotlight: Christian Zamora (2019)
First Team All-State. Two time All-State Tournament Team. 2A State Champion. His school’s all time leader in three pointers made in a season and career. Mix all of that into a 6’5, 185 pound frame and you have quite the player. That player is 2019 shooting guard Christian Zamora of Lynden High School. Christian is one of the most accomplished players in Lynden’s history when you also consider the fact that he has over 1200 points in his career and is on pace to break the school’s all time career scoring record. Lynden’s star perimeter player remains unsigned at this point, but he will surely find the right fit on someone’s roster. Prep Hoops had the opportunity to interview the super shooter and get an update on his season and college recruitment.
How is your season going so far?
My season is going really well so far. We are 5-0 and I am averaging 18 points and 7 rebounds. I have learned how to impact the game positively, even when my shot isn’t falling. I try to be a good ball mover, cut hard and pick it up on defense and get steals.
Tell me about your experience playing with Washington Elite in club ball?
I really enjoyed my time with Washington Elite. I played there from 7th grade all the way up and I liked the style of play, because the floor was spread and I liked playing with high level players.
How is your recruitment coming along?
I have heard from a lot of different schools including Saint Martin’s, Alaska Fairbanks, Lewis and Clark, Cal State University Monterey Bay. I’ve also heard from some National Jucos like Central Wyoming. Saint Martin’s and Alaska Fairbanks are two of my top schools right now. I have visited Saint Martin’s and I really like their style of play and I feel like I could fit in with my ability to shoot. They have a great atmosphere.
Have you visited Alaska Fairbanks?
I have not visited Alaska yet, but I would love to if the opportunity arose. Coach [Greg] Sparling was at Central Washington before, but he’s been out to see me play and talked with me as well after taking the position at Fairbanks.
Are you open to going to a junior college or would you rather go straight to a 4-year?
I would really prefer to go straight to a 4-year, because I know I can impact a program right now.
What are you looking for in a college?
I would really like a close-knit community similar to how Lynden is. I want to play somewhere that is competitive and a good school overall.
Christian maintains a 3.2 GPA and a pretty open mind as far as college recruitment goes. He is fully capable of competing in the GNAC (D2 conference) with his size, scoring ability, commitment to the classroom and ability to fit into the community. College coaches will definitely want to get in or seal up his recruitment now, before it is too late! There is a sleeper up in Lynden, but his game is too loud for him to be a sleeper much longer.
