Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several things that stood out in the contest.
Scroggins an inside-out force
Raymore-Peculiar 2020 forwared Kian Scriggins is among the KC area’s most improved players and appears poised for a big junior season for the Panthers. At 6’5, Scroggins has the size to play in the paint, and the skill to face up on the perimeter. He can shoot the 3, is a crafty ball handler and can attack the basket and throws defenders off with a left handed shooting touch.
Wittenauer a versatile performer for Mill Valley
Matty Wittenauer is a well-rounded wing player who showed on Wednesday he can do a lot of different things to help his team. He can handle the ball on the perimeter, passes well and can find open teammates and is capable driving to the basket. Defensively he competes and drew a key offensive foul in overtime from a Ray-Pec guard.
Davie hits key shots
Mill Valley 2019 guard Nick Davie came up clutch late in the third quarter, hitting a pair of deep 3-pointers with a hand in his face to help Mill Valley keep the game close. Davie scored nine points on three 3-pointers and showed terrific form, balance and ball rotation on his outside shooting stroke.
Hawley brings toughness to court
Also a standout on the football field, Raymore-Peculiar 2020 wing Conrad Hawley brings good size, length and a versatile skill set to the basketball court. A QB for the Panthers during the fall, Hawley can post up, where he is quick to the basket and able to get around most post players for an open look out of the post, but can also step out and knock down perimeter shots, pass and handle the ball on the perimeter. He scored nine points in Wednesday’s low scoring affair, including a key long 2-pointer in overtime.
Jordan solid running the point
Raymore-Peculiar 2020 point guard Jermain Jordan continues to show he is a solid point guard capable of running a team, limiting turnovers and making the right play. He can make an outside shot, but mostly lets the game come to him and doesn’t try to do too much. Jordan is a standout free throw shooter and was 4 for 5 at the free throw line on Wednesday, finishing the game with nine points.
