Eric’s Weekly Evaluations: Week 5 Upperclassmen
In this article:
The season is in full swing and we are in the midst of the holiday season with our first week of holiday tournaments. Today, we bring together our look at the upperclassmen from this week including stops at Crispus Attucks vs. Bedford North Lawrence, the Marion Holiday Classic, the Manual Holiday Extravaganza, and Shenandoah vs. New Palestine.
#3 Sincere McMahon – 6’1 PG 2020 – Crispus Attucks (IN)
**23 points against Bedford North Lawrence (IN)**
McMahon is a big guard tons of strength and it really good perimeter jumper. Although, his jumper wasn’t falling last night he did hit a couple off the catch and a nice pull-up three in transition. He’s doing a lot more off the bounce now to the point where he’s going hard to the right side of the rim and finishing in a variety of ways. He used a floater and some tough layouts against competition at the rim. High-end producer that is just now scratching the surface.
#5 Jaden Tyson – 6’3 SF 2019 – Crispus Attucks (IN)
**7 points against Bedford North Lawrence (IN)**
Jaden is an undersize wing was some good inside out ability. Really bouncy and a long athlete that can take the ball and drive on the right-hand side of the rim. Did a lots of work without the ball and moving at the room, catching in the Lane. Also, showed a nice perimeter jumper. Likely play the two or the three in college and could develop quite a bit more once in a system. He’s an athlete that can give you your rebounding ability but still be able to spread the floor on the wing.
#21 Courtney Radford – 6’6 PF 2019 – Crispus Attucks (IN)
**7 points against Bedford North Lawrence (IN)**.
Radford is the solid forward prospect who really show that he can rebound the ball a high level. Did most of his offensive work off of rebounds and was never really given any plays but still scored seven points and probably half a dozen rebounds. Just got a great body with some links and a ton of strength already. Should be able to plug and play in a college system at the right level and could be a sneaky prospect in this class.
#23 Jaiquan Edwards – 6’6 PF 2019 – Crispus Attucks (IN)
**10 points against Bedford North Lawrence (IN)**
Edward started off tonight kind of slow but into the second half was a big time producer that got Attucks what it needed late. Showed an array of offenses skills including the mid-range pull-up in some work on the offense of glass. His ballhandling is gotten quite a bit better Annie’s able to score up the balance a lot more and play in transition even more than he did this summer. Does more of his work faced up now than in the post but still should be an effective low blocks score in college.
#25 Tyran Lewis – 6’1 PG 2019 – Crispus Attucks (IN)
**9 points against Bedford North Lawrence (IN)**
Lewis is a tall guard was some strength in a good head on his shoulders. Was pretty solid in transition and show the ability to make the open past and set up his teammates. Is quite a bit better as a set up guy rather than a score but did show that he considered a ball from the wing. Showed a right-handed floater an offense of put back and a catch and shoot three on the second half. Even showed some athleticism with the chase down block.
#12 McCall Ray – 6’0 PG 2019 – Bedford North Lawrence (IN)
**12 points against Crispus Attucks (IN)**
Ray is a big guard with tons of strength and could likely end up playing football at the next level. He did pretty well in this game showing us tough, physical ability to drive the ball and instigate contact. He had a nice right-handed pull-up from about 10 feet away Andrew quite a few thousand is driving ability. Didn’t show the premier jumper as much as we have seen in the past but did have a nice fadeaway three late in the game.
#15 Cale Bunch – 6’5 C 2020 – Bedford North Lawrence (IN)
**3 points against Crispus Attucks (IN)**
Kayla is a big low post prospect cool need to trim the frame up a bit do has The strength and some skill in the post to be an effective scorer and rebounder. Moves well for size but much more hello post presents and I got it’s going to be able to stretch the floor at all.
#22 Brayton Bailey – 6’2 SG 2020 – Bedford North Lawrence (IN)
**24 points against Crispus Attucks (IN)**
Bailey is a big guard with an immense amount of skill and creativity. The one thing you can pretty much always expect out of him is to score the ball and do it in ways no one else is. He had a few of those plays, notably driving right baseline to curl around the block, into a spin move layup. He’s not going to be stopped by length of talent scoring the ball. Thought he was a little bit better rebounding than we saw before, more active off the boards and his jumper was solid. Good all-around game.
#24 Jathan Ritter – 6’4 SF 2019 – Bedford North Lawrence (IN)
**8 points against Crispus Attucks (IN)**
Ritter is an interesting wing prospect that played all over the floor. Scored the ball really well and in a variety of ways including catch-and-shoot threes, a couple right handed pull-ups in the mid-range, and even a tough rebound put-back. He’s a lean forward who will need strength but has good size and capable handles off the bounce to create as a wing. Intriguing scoring wing that seemed to have a lot of promise.
#10 Michael Scott – 6’6 PF 2020 – Fort Wayne North (IN)
**18 points against Liberty Christian (IN)**
Scott is a big forward who is a little raw but has some upside. Big and has some size but needs to clean up the frame. Moves pretty well and can compete on the low block and face up a bit. He’s not so mobile that he can play really well in transition but does get up and down the floor. Showed he has some scoring ability on the low block with a nice turnaround jumper from the mid-elbow. As he gets tougher and stronger, his low block production should grow.
#4 Matt Kochanski – 5’11 SG 2019 – Bishop Dwenger (IN)
**16 points against Richmond (IN)**
Kochanski is a solid guard who can score it pretty well and help on the ball at times. Handles isn’t as tight as it needs to be but scores it well enough to make up for it. Was aggressive down low and did well rebounding for his size. Offensively, he can step out and hit a mid-range pull-up as well as a floater in the lane. Will be interesting to see how he is used at the next level, better if he can clean up the handle.
#22 Hayden Smithey – 6’5 SF 2019 – Bishop Dwenger (IN)
**14 points against Richmond (IN)**
Smithey was up and down all game. When he was good, he was more set on his jumper and it was falling for him. The bad was when he rushed his shots which was a few too many. He’s solid enough at every skill and this was by far the most assertive game we have ever seen from him. Loved the effort and his aggressiveness searching for shots but want to see that turn into more efficiency.
#30 John Hoffman – 6’5 SF 2019 – Bishop Dwenger (IN)
**8 points against Richmond (IN)**
Hoffman is a solid forward prospect that does most of his work from 12’ and in. He’s a guy that can play faced up in the mid-range but also with his back to the basket. Had a couple turnaround jumpers and hooks on the low block. He’s going to be a guy that can hold his space in the paint and skilled enough to finish against some size. He’s not going to be the top forward on a college roster but looks like he could really surprise some people with his craftiness scoring the ball.
#10 Lucas Kroft – 6’5 SF 2019 – Richmond (IN) [Committed to Ball State]
**16 points against Bishop Dwenger (IN)**
Kroft didn’t have his best game, missing a few shots at the rim and got into foul trouble early that hindered more. He was really solid in creating opportunities but not many fell early in the game. Deceptively quick into the lane but could become a bit better laterally to give him some improved finishing. Seemed to force the jumper a bit but when he got set, it looked quite a bit better. Should be solid when he doesn’t have to mount a comeback.
#3 Isaac Farnsworth – 6’3 SF 2020 – Fort Wayne Snider (IN)
**4 points against Brownsburg (IN)**
Farnsworth is a big wing that plays about as physical as you could ask for. He isn’t going to need many plays called for him as he will give you some physicality in the paint, grab boards, and finish at the rim. He’s really crafty in the middle of the floor and physical enough to take on guys much taller than him. Rebounds very well and can be a good shooter from 15’ to three. Going to be much more about fit in college than highest level.
#23 Dillon Duff – 6’5 SF 2020 – Fort Wayne Snider (IN)
**14 points against Brownsburg (IN)**
Duff is a tough wing with size and skill. He likes to play at a high level and create off the bounce. Jumper wasn’t as crisp as it has been but he made some plays late that helped balance his game out. Was good off the catch from distance but his mid-range pull-up was his best move of the night as he hit it a couple times and even got an and-one off of one of them. He’s a guy that gives you athleticism and rebounding ability while still having enough of a jumper to be a really effective scoring threat.
#24 Cleevas Craig – 6’7 PF 2020 – Fort Wayne Snider (IN)
**2 points against Brownsburg (IN)**
One of the better games we have seen from Craig as he was very assertive and showed an improved jumper. He didn’t make a ton but liked the form on the shot and wasn’t afraid to take it. He was pretty good on the boards on both ends of the floor. He’s got great length and a frame that should be imposing to defenders. If he can get the jumper in line a bit more, still keep up the amount of shots, and impact the boards, he’s really moving in the right direction.
#3 Cameron Alford – 6’1 PG 2019 – Brownsburg (IN)
**16 points, 6 rebounds against Fort Wayne Snider (IN)**
Alford was pretty dominant in this game. Played well in the lane and drove pretty much every time down the floor, controlling the tempo and pace. Snider couldn’t really stay in front of him and continually fouled when he got closer to the rim. Didn’t hardly shoot the ball but is still really effective as a driver. He’s been really consistent with his play and is about the best finisher in the lane in the state.
#10 Reis Thomas – 6’3 SF 2019 – Brownsburg (IN)
**18 points against Fort Wayne Snider (IN)**
Reis had about his best game of the year for sure and one of the best of his career. He shot the ball at a high level hitting three triples on three straight touches. He’s a little bit of an awkward fit positionally but if the perimeter jumper can be as effective as today, he’s really got the ability to help as a wing. Athleticism looks a little down following an injury but he just might need more time. Such a quality player that seems to make the right play and can pass it really well. Physically enough that you can use him in different ways.
#32 Malek Edmonds – 6’6 PF 2020 – Brownsburg (IN)
**13 points against Fort Wayne Snider (IN)**
Malek is a big bruising forward that continues to show his versatility as a guy that had a big dunk, knocked down jump shots and rebounded at a pretty high level. He was the beneficiary with a few dump offs in quick sets and was effective as a rebounder that scored off of rebound putbacks. Even showed the foot speed and agility with an up-and-under finish. Each game of his we have seen he’s shown that variety of scoring.
#1 Brandon Newman – 6’5 SF 2019 – Valparaiso (IN) [Committed to Purdue]
**20 points against Marion (IN), 22 points against Zionsville (IN)**
Newman is an elite scoring guard who has a great perimeter and mid-range jumper but on these two days, he really struggled to hit any sort of jump shot. Looked like a case of the yips almost but did pretty much everything else at a high level. Loved his ability to hop and slash through defenders, mixing in a spin move and finishing at the rim. Had a couple explosive plays at the rim, completely jumping over a defender. Ball handling was solid, will need to finish at a little higher rate at the rim with more strength but all the tools are there to be a high-end producer at the next level.
#13 Nathan Aerts – 6’6 SF 2019 – Valparaiso (IN) [Committed to Bethel College]
**14 points, 9 rebounds against Marion (IN), 13 points against Zionsville (IN)**
Aerts is a growing forward that had a solid game. He was pretty active along the perimeter where he has the handles to drive and be a little more physical than he showed during the summer. Slashing ability looks solid but needs some added strength to finish at a higher clip. Jumper wasn’t completely working for him today but everything looked fine. He’s a little bit more of a balanced scorer than this summer and looks like he still has quite a bit more room to grow. Had a spectacular drive late in the game with a little bit of a eurostep in traffic for a finish.
#3 Qu’Ran Howard – 6’5 SF 2019 – Marion (IN)
**6 points against Valparaiso (IN)**
Howard is a long, lanky wing with good size at 6’5 who can really make some plays. He had a great block in transition and had enough athleticism that you could see him impact things down the road in some different ways. Does more in open space right now, having some transition layups and slashes through the lane to catch on the way and finish. Not surprisingly skilled on the perimeter with the ball but could be a guy with a postgrad year or two that takes off.
#4 John Carrothers – 6’3 SG 2019 – Andrean (IN)
**10 points against Indianapolis Howe (IN)**
Carrothers is a big guard with improved handles and some offense. Really liked his handles for his size. Not a guy that is going to play on the ball but as a 2/3 at the next level, he’s more than capable. Good off the catch from distance with a slow, but high release. Kind of a do-it-all guard what has the size at the DIII level to matchup well on a few perimeter spots.
#3 Eric Kendrick – 6’7 PF 2019 – Andrean (IN)
**4 points against Indianapolis Howe (IN)**
Kendrick is a long, lean forward with some skill that could develop a ton in college. He’s a bit raw now in the handles but did hit a jumper off the catch from distance and rebounded well at times deep in the post. Pretty rangy, though, and could play all over the floor. He has a great frame that should be able to add strength to in college but at 6’7, has enough agility and athleticism to really compete against 3/4s.
#13 Creshaun Brown – 6’2 SG 2019 – Indianapolis Howe (IN)
**15 points against Andrean (IN)**
Brown continues to show he can be a high level shooter, knocking down a ton of shots in this one. He’s still better as a catch-and-shoot guy but is pretty solid as a driver if he is overplayed. The frame and toughness is set and he should be able to plug and play at the college level. Was a little more aggressive off the dribble than he showed in the last few games.
#2 Kycia Washington – 5’11 PG 2019 – Indianapolis Howe (IN)
**23 points against Andrean (IN)**
Washington continues to play at a pretty high level. Love his decision making this year compared to the past few. He’s way more under control and when you mix that with his improved shooting and consistency and he’s making a case for college programs.
#0 Montez McNair – 5’10 PG 2019 – Indianapolis Manual (IN)
**6 points against Blackhawk Christian (IN)**
Montez is a tough, phsycial guard who is a little smaller but handles pressure well and can compete. Showed he has a solid pull-up game, just needs to go up a little more vertically. Seems crafty with his scoring but could take it up a level. More of a dribble-drive guy than a shooter but has the capability to do a little bit of everything.
#1 Wilante Hankston – 6’1 SG 2019 – Indianapolis Manual (IN)
**14 points against Blackhawk Christian (IN)**
Hankston is a bigger guard with a pretty good jumper. Was good off the catch on the deep wing. Isn’t overly athletic but has some quickness. He has some physical tools and a little bit of length. Could stand to find more ways to use his body and be a little tougher defensively but if he can pull that out in college, would really help him progress.
#11 Caleb Redman – 6’2 SG 2019 – Indianapolis Manual (IN)
**16 points against Blackhawk Christian (IN)**
Redman is a lean guard with a little height and a progressing shot. He was really good off the pull up in this one, from deep and in the mid-range. Ball handling is right there and he’s making plays with the ball in his hands. He goes searching for points and looks like he is being pretty efficient with it. Fairly dynamic with his scoring ability and gets it done at all three levels. If you need a scorer that can add variety, he’s one of them to look at.
#32 Jalen Johnson – 6’7 PF 2019 – Indianapolis Manual (IN)
**28 points against Blackhawk Christian (IN)**
Jalen is a big, bruising post player with a ton of strength and a great interior game. Not a guy that is going to really stretch the floor but he did step out and hit a perimeter jumper. He was very aggressive in the paint and drew a ton of fouls. Will need to turn some more of those into and-ones but he’s so physically strong that the only way to stop him is to foul him if he is on the low block. An old school power forward type that will be more of a system fit in college.
#32 Frankie Davidson – 6’5 SF 2019 – Blackhawk Christian (IN)
**18 points against Indianapolis Manual (IN)**
Davidson is a big wing with really good athleticism and scoring ability. Was good off the bounce, making plays in the lane and shooting the ball. He’s looking better as a scorer off the bounce against athleticism. Handles as a breakdown guy on the perimeter were a little iffy a couple times but overall I thought he was good. Got in to foul trouble and needs to cut down on that a little.
#34 Marcus Davidson – 6’0 SG 2020 – Blackhawk Christian (IN)
**15 points against Indianapolis Manual (IN)**
Marcus is a scoring guard who will need to grow a little bit but as a shooter, is really solid. Was great off the catch and was pretty consistent with his play all game. Looks like he has to grow still with the body type right now. Even showed he doesn’t have to be perfect in his positioning as he hit a nice turnaround fadeaway in the mid-range. If he can add some height, the shooting will be his calling card.
#34 Terrance Hargrove – 6’6 SF 2019 – East St. Louis (IL) [Committed to Saint Louis]
**13 points against Warren Central (IN)**
Hargrove is an undersized forward who plays well all over the floor. Kind of a jack-of-all-trades wing that can rebound outside of his area and still shoot the ball at a pretty good clip. Was really good in space and caught a lot of lobs in quick halfcouft sets. Athletic and really well built but likely to play more of a tough 3 at the next level than an interior forward.
#1 Jashawn Anderson – 5’9 PG 2020 – East St. Louis (IL)
**11 points against Warren Central (IN)**
Jashawn is a really small but super quick point guard. He’s thin and needs strength but was so agile in the lane and creative with the ball in his hands. Was able to make plays in a row in the second quarter where he would use a quick first step to get to the rim. Not really a big shooter but thought he had enough strength to finish in the lane pretty consistently if he was going to get hit.
#11 Jesse Bingham – 6’5 SF 2019 – Warren Central (IN) [Committed to Indianapolis]
**10 points against East St. Louis (IL)**
Bingham is a long, lanky wing that looks world’s better with a more aggressive mindset. Was active in the lane, slashing and following up missed shots. He’s creating more with his agility in the air but might just lack the strength to finish it off at this point. Still, he was drawing a lot of fouls. The change in aggressiveness is key and if he can add some more strength, his game should take off.
#20 Isiah Moore – 5’10 PG 2019 – Warren Central (IN) [Committed to IU-East]
**28 points against East St. Louis (IL)**
Moore is a smaller guard but plays quick and has an even faster trigger. He went off early in the first quarter for four threes in the span of about a minute or so. Did a little bit in the mid-range with a little pull-up runner but most were off the catch on the wing. He’s a spark plug for an offense when he gets on. Isn’t necessarily a true point guard and won’t fit every system that needs a guard but will from an offensive standpoint.
#23 Jakobie Robinson – 6’7 PF 2019 – Warren Central (IN)
**8 points against East St. Louis (IL)**
Jakobie is a long, lean forward who has adapted into a strong ball handler that can make plays faced up. Was much more aggressive and looked healthy following an injury during the summer. He was really good slashing and making plays in the lane. He’s even showing a little more of a jump shot as well. He’s starting to put all his skill together with more meaningful minutes. Still, he has a ton more room to grow and likely has another level in him.
#14 Charlie Peterson – 6’8 PF 2020 – North Central (IN)
**18 points against Fort Wayne Wayne (IN)**
One of the better games we have seen from Peterson as he took a more interior approach in this game. Still needs to be tougher around the rim and finish through contact but was trying to make it a point to be inside for this game. That also put him in for more rebounds and gave North Central a much better balance offensively. He can be a double-double type with his mobility to go and run down boards, so if the paint performance continues, would love to see where that takes him.
#4 Michael Redding – 6’2 SG 2020 – Fort Wayne Wayne (IN)
**16 points against Fort Wayne Wayne (IN)**
Redding is a skinny guard that can really shoot the ball but showed the handles that could let him create more in the future. Was really good off the catch but was probably more impressed with his pull-up game and how he got to his spots. Ball handling is really good in quick and solid in short space but should get better at times when he needs to get all the way to the rim. With that being said, he was making tough shots in this one.
#20 Darius Alexander – 6’6 C 2019 – Fort Wayne Wayne (IN)
**10 points against North Central (IN)**
Darius is a big, thick post player who showed some athleticism. He’s a football prospect and looks like the perfect interior lineman but was pretty solid on the court as well. He was really good as a rebounder in his own area with solid hands and had some touch around the rim, still could improve a bit there, though. Really only an interior post player and if basketball would be his choice, would need to trim down but the footwork is solid and he was decent athletic and had a huge dunk in the lane just after the buzzer at halftime.
#11 Isaiah Thompson – 6’0 PG 2019 – Zionsville (IN) [Committed to Purdue]
**20 points against Valparaiso (IN)**
Thompson looked pretty solid in this game. He wasn’t nearly as aggressive trying to deal with ball pressure and went more naturally into his pull-up game. Was good shooting the ball and seemed to really pick his driving opportunities well against a pretty big team with some length. He’s really become very adept with his ability to handle defenders playing as a point guard, easily the best part of his game as of late.
#24 Nathan Childress – 6’7 PF 2019 – Zionsville (IN) [Committed to Bethel College]
**20 points against Valparaiso (IN)**
Childress played one of his best games with his shooting ability on display. He was really searching out jumpers and made pretty much all of them. He was exceptional in the mid-range pulling up off the bounce. It wasn’t a ton of creation but enough that showed his versatility. Not to mention, he was really good above the rim on a couple plays as well.
#11 Max Gizzi – 6’1 PG 2020 – New Palestine (IN)
**14 points against Shenandoah (IN)**
Gizzi is a big guard with handles and a capable jumper. Wasn’t scoring the ball at his best but was still impactful hitting a floater and a mid-range jumper to show off the skill. He was pretty quick when he looked to attack and has a big frame so did look to create contact. Perimeter jumper wasn’t working for him and did want to see a little more attack late in the game when it was close.
#14 Matthew True – 6’1 PG 2019 – New Palestine (IN)
**5 points against Shenandoah (IN)**
True is a solid guard who can play on or off the ball. Good shooter that has some range and mid-range ability. Had a really nice baseline jumper off the dribble in one of the few times he went to his right. Tends to go left a ton and does has the ability to get to the rim but needed to see a little more effectiveness. Shot looks solid with a good release and touch beyond the arc.
#24 Eric Roudebush – 6’4 SF 2020 – New Palestine (IN)
**5 points against Shenandoah (IN)**
Eric is a wing with some size and handles. He’s not the biggest scorer yet but has the handles and athleticism to make some plays. Good frame and should add some weight really well in the next year and might get some height too. Hit a perimeter jumper and picked up a couple free throws. Shot looks capable but it’s more about him finding ways to get shots. Has all the tools to be a good prospect.
#40 Dylan Romine – 6’2 SF 2019 – New Palestine (IN)
**18 points against Shenandoah (IN)**
Romine had one of the best games we had seen from him. An undersized forward who has some sneaky athleticism. Came up huge late and gave them the win with is performance. Great shooter and was knocking down everything. Inside-out threat who has the strength to battle some players in the paint. Everything was off the catch but did have a nice slash to the rim where he got at the high post and drove to finish.
#41 Dawson Eastes – 6’5 PF 2020 – New Palestine (IN)
**21 points against Shenandoah (IN)**
Dawson is a strong forward with a solid frame and could be a good inside-out threat at the next level. Great shooter for his size/position and even showed some athleticism getting up for a two-hand dunk in the lane. The frame should add strength well and he’s got possibly a little more room to grow. If he can get any more size, I think the skill is there for him to really take off and be a sneaky forward for some small school programs in a year.
