In the consolation bracket, Ruskin defeated Sumner, while Olathe South ran away from Wyandotte.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several of the tournament’s top forwards.
Waizel Evans, 6’1, G, 2020, Wyandotte
After a slow start, Evans put together a strong second half on Thursday against Olathe South in the consolation semifinals. He is a tough match-up in transition as he attacks the basket and has a feel for finishing chances on the break. He scored four points in the first half, then added 16 in the second half.
Cameron Green, 6’0, G, 2019, Blue Valley
Green is a tough, no nonsense defender who plays with a big motor, constantly harasses opposing ball handlers and brings a lot of intensity to the floor. At the offensive end of the floor, Green shows the ability to knock down outside shots and is a solid ball handler. He’s not a flashy player, but is effective at both ends of the floor.
Diamond Hines, 6’2, G, 2020, Wyandotte
Hines is a terrific athlete and a blur in the open court as he can turn a long rebound or a turnover into a quick easy basket at the other end in a hurry. He has a high arcing outside shot but is at his best playing an attacking, down hill brand of basketball.
Clearance King, 6’1, G, 2019, Lawrence
King missed the Lions’ first game we saw Lawrence at the 810Varsity Tip Off Classic at Liberty, but he was a force on Thursday against Grandview as he showed the ability to blow by defenders, get to the basket and finish tough chances around the basket. A left hander, Lawrence can knock down outside shots, is a creative finisher in the lane, and has good court vision, able to see the floor.
Trey Quartlebaum, 6’2, PG, 2019, Lawrence
Had a terrific all-around game, handling the ball, breaking down the defense of Grandview and attacking the basket. Lawrence took it to Grandview, one of the top Class 4 teams in Missouri and Quartlebaum helped lead the way, leading the Lions with 16 points. He knocked down a 3, threw down a dunk, and got to the free throw line.
