Prospect Update: Tyler Sansgaard (2020)
Today, Tyler Sansgaard’s junior season begins, and the Nevada sharpshooter is hoping to bounce back after a lackluster sophomore campaign.
He had a strong offseason while playing with All Iowa Attack 16U. And the 6-foot shooting guard is eager to showcase his newfound ability to score off the bounce.
“I’ve always been able to shoot pretty well, so I’ve been working a lot on getting inside,” said Sansgaard. “With my school team I’m kinda the point guard, and this summer we did a lot of new things with our new coach and that helped me a lot, because I was able to get inside a lot more.”
With All Iowa Attack this past spring and summer, Sansgaard got a lot of work in and was sizzling from beyond the arc the couple of times we saw him play.
“We played pretty well this year, it helped having the same guys back from last year because we knew each other and played together a lot more,” said Sansgaard. “It just helps when you know everyone and what people can do.”
After a breakout freshman season, Sansgaard had a down year as a sophomore. Now, he’s in line to be the main guy for the Cubs. He’s excited to see how this new-look team shakes out.
“We’ve got a new coach and everything is different and we have a pretty good chance at starting our season well,” said Sansgaard. “We got a lot of people that have played some, and they’ll be ready. I think we’re going to be pretty good defensively, we’re pretty quick.”
He added: “I would just like to have a pretty good year and win more games than we did last year, and it’d be nice to make it past the first round in districts because we haven’t done that in a few years.”
As for his recruitment, it’s still early in process, but some schools have taken notice.
“A few schools have asked me to come to their camps, it was Emporia State, Buena Vista and University of Chicago,” said Sansgaard.
It’ll be a big year ahead recruitment-wise for Sansgaard and the whole Class of 2020.
