Elite 14 Recaps: Stellar Swingmen
Arthur Kaluma / 6’7″ / SF / Universal Academy / 2021
The sophomore forward has a chance to be a really productive two-way player. He is capable of handling the ball up the court and initiating the offense. Kaluma is also a willing passer in the open court and in transition. He capitalizes on good looks from behind the arc offensively, and defensively, he utilizes his long arms on defense and takes pride in staying in front of his man. Once he improves his Basketball I.Q. he will be a force to be reckoned with over the next two years.
Andrew Laczkowski / 6’5″ / SF / St. Mark’s / 2020
Andrew shot the ball well and was more aggressive on Saturday. He stretched the defense with his shooting, which opened up his dribble drive game. The thin framed combo-forward needs to play with more aggression and display consistency to keep his stock steady.
Journee Phillips / 6’2″ / SG / San Antonio Wagner / 2020
Journee continues to improve his game each time I see him perform. He is an improved ball handler under pressure who gets to the rim at will. Slashing aggressively on the offensive end and playing hard defensively is all Journee knows. He displayed Tony Allen-like toughness on the court, finished strong under the rim, and battled for every fifty-fifty ball. His jumpshot is what must improve for him to take his game to another level.
K.J. Pruitt / 6’4″ / SG / Lewisville / 2020
He was at his best in transition in his matchup vs. Lancaster. He got out on the break and scored everything in the paint. This is definitely the K.J. we need to see throughout the high school season. He even stepped out and knocked down a perimeter jumper from long distance. K.J. has a chance to blow up as a versatile, athletic two-way combo-guard.
